Re: Finch & Harrington (automatics) UK

Sorry for the incredibly late reply, Im not sure why I missed this originally. I was just wondering if any new info or pictures of the original location had popped up online and I found this thread!! To answer your question AMI-MAN, its a Rockola 442 I have. Other than the info posted, no further de...

Re: Rockola Turntable Motors Interchangeable?

Hi Ron, yes both have been cleaned with alcohol and oiled with 3 in 1 motor oil. I've also tried lithium grease but didn't see any improvement

Re: Rockola Turntable Motors Interchangeable?

Thanks guys. There doesn't appear to be any play as you describe in the motor shaft. But while the correct spring is installed now, when I got the machine it had the wrong spring with too high tension on it, this seemed to be a bodge job to compensate for a slippy idler wheel.. Im 90% that the noise...

Re: Rockola Turntable Motors Interchangeable?

Hi Ron, changed the grommets, no noticeable difference in rumble unfortunately.

I have the idler bearing on order now and will report back results when I change that part out.

Re: Rockola Turntable Motors Interchangeable?

Thanks Ron, that didnt occur to me. From what I recall it is sitting correctly on springs, but I will double check this. The white grommets arrived, so I will be giving them a go real soon. Just based on feel they do seem different and potentially better at dampening than the black ones, so I'm hope...

Re: Rockola Turntable Motors Interchangeable?

Well, I found someone in the UK who has light / white looking grommets, and does claim them to be superior to the black ones. They should be here any day now, when installed Ill let you know if I found any difference. I am also sending parts requests in the hope I can replace the idler bearing shaft...

Re: Rock ola 443 jukebox question

Rob / Ceramic, that amp is germanium transistor based and is the same as in my 442. The amps came with inputs that could take either ceramic or magnetic pickups, so no pre-amp required with this. Not sure why the 443 came with Ceramics by default, couldn't have been too much difference in cost. I sh...

Re: Rock ola 443 jukebox question

The earth or "grounding" arrangement for your jukebox should be as follows: Mains feed comes into the cabinet, connects to a step down transformer at the bottom of the cab that delivers the 115v volts to the PSU unit. The cheeks or casing of this transformer will likely be earthed, and als...

Re: Rockola Turntable Motors Interchangeable?

Ron, Yeah it took a little of what said you get the motor lined up again, I've had a similar experience with Garrard turntable motors too. The grommets are black ones, though there don't seem to be any others around. Clones, When I do that, most of the noise is coming when the idler is engaged, so p...

Re: Rock ola 443 jukebox question

No cartridge at all? Are there any tone arm wires? Once again, pictures would be very helpful.... Glass slow blow fuses are easily found on ebay, or online. Your Maplin / RadioShack equivalent may well stock them too, just make sure they are the correct value! My 442 has the same fuses and I had no ...

Re: Rockola Turntable Motors Interchangeable?

Thanks Ron, I always appreciate your input. I did notice something curious.... My motor has 2 oil filling pipes on it, one for top bearing and one for bottom. My motor hangs off grommets with a washer and c-clip holding it in place. Looking at my schematic however, the motor is mounted using screws ...

Re: Rock ola 443 jukebox question

It's not a "headshell" you need but a cartridge. I bought mine from someone in the USA, but you can get them from various jukebox parts stores online. Make sure you get the " shure m44mr" and budget for a new stylus also. You can get the official stylus now as they don't make the...

Re: Rock ola 443 jukebox question

Hi, I think I referred you here from the Vintage Radio Forum? :) Can you give us any info on what cartridge is in it? If its a Shure one (m44 series), that is the best cartridge for that machine. All of these had stereo compliant cartridges by this point. Due to the type of arm etc, you wont get a m...

Rockola Turntable Motors Interchangeable?

Hi Guys, Havent been on here for some time, other projects took all my time! I'm looking for a replacement turntable motor for my Rockola 442. As far as I can see most Rockola motors from the late 60s to the 80s look the same with the 3 mounting points that hang from grommets. Are they generally int...
