Re: WANTED: 1946 Magnavox Belvedere

Hi from Fresno -- As far as the value of a perfect-condition set, I really can't say for certain; my guess is that $1,000 might be a little high, but at present, as I'm sure you know, nothing is selling. Your Magnavox Belvedere sounds wonderful, but it is not the same as the one my grandparents used...

Re: WANTED: 1946 Magnavox Belvedere

Hi from Fresno, CA; many thanks for your message; I've since come to learn that I was mistaken on the year of manufacture of my family's Belvedere. Apparently it was 1948 because it definitely had 33 and 78 rpm speeds. I've also come to realize that the handles on the front of the cabinet were round...

To: MYKJFA -- Thank you for your post. I would like to ask where in the U.S. you are located and if you can send me a couple of photos of the inside compartment and outside of the Belvedere. Please send to ghewett@daklaw.com. Thank you -- George (Fresno, CA)

Re: Re:

If you can send me your direct e-mail, I will e-mail a copy of magazine ads for the Magnavox Belvedere and a photo or two of my family's Belvedere model. My direct e-mail is ghewett@daklaw.com. Thank you. I have a Magnavox Belvedere that was given to us from a friend. I don't have any idea what year...

Re: WANTED: 1946 Magnavox Belvedere

Thanks for the information about the 16 rpm speed; also, the overarm changer. I recall our family's 1948 Belvedere had the pusher post changer as mentioned.

Re: WANTED: 1946 Magnavox Belvedere

If you will send me a photo of the console itself and a photo of the turntable, I will be able to give a better guestimate as to the age. Please send to ghewett@daklaw.com. Thank you -- George

Re: WANTED: 1946 Magnavox Belvedere

No, never found the Belvedere. What year is your model? I imagine it must be into the 1950's with all four speeds -- or do you have the 1946-48 Belvedere model with a later turntable? My family's Belvedere, I later learned, was a 1948, because it had 33 and 78 speeds. If it were a 1946, it would hav...

This is all the type of thing I leave to my radio/TV restoration man; the extent of my repair abilities as far as ANYTHING mechanic is concerned is a roll of Scotch tape! I know the extent of my own inabilities and that's why, out of a desire not to ruin a phonograph, TV or whatever else, I leave it...

I enjoyed seeing that history of the changers/turntables, but I didn't see the one that I recall being in our family's Magnavox. On the topic of that twin-arm Cobra (the green and burgundy), I think being the model that recorded and played discs, there was one of those on Ebay not long ago, but the ...

Never considered this possibility; didn't know it existed

Thanks for the note and the history. I'm now left wondering whether your theory of the upgraded turntable is a possiblity, or whether it was just a 1948 model Magnavox as opposed to a 1946. From the two cabinets that have come up for auction on Ebay, the 1948 is identical with the identical pull han...

The 1946 Magnavox came up for sale, and I took another look at the photos of it, comparing the front to our family's Magnavox. I see now, the "ring-shaped" handles on the front of the cabinet are full circles, whereas our Magnavox had handles that were half circles and slightly wider. The ...

Yes, I knew that most of the prerecorded radio shows during the WWII era were recorded at 33-1/3 speed, but I thought those ten-inch LPs were available to consumers prior to 1948. It was my understanding that 1948 was when the 12-inch format LP came into being. Had no idea that an LP was experimente...

All I know is, the cabinet housing my grandparents' Magnavox is identical to that pictured in the 1946 ads for the Belvedere model. It did not have the Webcor turntable. I too thought that LP 33 speed was introduced postwar, but I have had information from those who were around during that era that ...
