Re: Antique Apparatus /Rock-Ola Gazelle cd8 static

Ron, I talked to Ross at RJB and he confirmed your diagnosis: bad or weak capacitators in the amp. I'll send it to him for a replacement job and a re-adjustment as well. I have some mixed feelings about it though- at just the right volume the pop and static from the amp balances out with the audio a...

Re: Antique Apparatus /Rock-Ola Gazelle cd8 static

Ron,
Oops, I meant RON, not RICH. Sorry about that.

I do have one more question; What is a "DAC"?

Re: Antique Apparatus /Rock-Ola Gazelle cd8 static

Hi Rich, I pulled the input plugs and the noise is still there, so I'm guessing its the amp like you said. Damn!, but I'm in too deep to quit now! Oh well, I'm off to ebay or maybe I'll try get ahold of Ross over at RJB in California (He got my Rock-Ola control computer back from the dead). Thank yo...

Antique Apparatus /Rock-Ola Gazelle cd8 static

After 3 years of blindly flailing away at this box (with some crucial help from this board), I finally got it to work! Now that it actually plays I find it has a bit of unwanted noise coming out of the speakers. When the CD player (a 1994 model CDM-4 industrial ) is playing a CD the speakers sound l...

Re: Rock-ola CD-8 CD player plug

David, This poor box led a pretty rough life in a biker bar for a few years, then transported, CD player unsecured, in the back of a pickup-layin on its back. Then it was left unused in a basement until I got it a few weeks ago. It is funny you should mention the Duke boys as it was brought here on ...

Re: Rock-ola CD-8 CD player plug

david, I will certainly email you! As to the plug- as long as I dont plug the end into the computer, I dont blow any fuses. It doesnt matter whether the plug going into the power supply is plugged in or not, I have no problems until I connect it up to the computer and then -- POP, POP,POP! it will b...

Re: Rock-ola CD-8 CD player plug

ARRGGHHH! Bad news-- I have apparently smoked the 57000-A control computer! I suspect when I reversed the plug from the power unit leading to this computer and turned it on I did some serious electronic mayhem inside. Now all I get is blown fuses when I try to power it up, but if I leave the compute...

Re: Rock-ola CD-8 CD player plug

David, Whew! I was hoping that was the answer, or I was afaraid I'd entered a whole new realm of electrical problems/corundums! No need to apologize, even that minor hiccup was a learning process for me and I am TRULY indebted to you guys for getting me this far-so far. I can't work on it today (exce...

Re: Rock-ola CD-8 CD player plug

David, In your pin read-out for the J1 plug, did you flip #10 & 11? My schematic lists them as"TP6" for #10 pin and "TP5" for #11. When I do a trace back to the computer plug, pin 2 at the computer end, which leads to pin 11 at the CD player plug end is a "Logic" te...

Re: Rock-ola CD-8 CD player plug

OK! Now we're getting somewhere-or so I thought.... I wired up the plug as you said, plugged in the plugs, flipped the power switch and ***POP***! I instantly blew 2 of the 3 one amp slow blow fuses in the power box, and the three amp one as well. I dug around and found a couple of 1 amp replacement...

Re: Rock-ola CD-8 CD player plug

Ahh, so "Key" means a blocked off pin! As Storther Martin would say- "What we have here is a failure to communicate!" Admittingly, I learned what little I know about schematic reading in the auto repair field where we called that a "locator guide". Same purpose though, ...

Re: Rock-ola CD-8 CD player plug

Hi David, I DO have the schematics for this machine, but they are useless. They dont show the pin to pin routing of the wires from the control computer up the wiring harness to the CD player. On my 11 Terminal plug that attaches to the CD player, the one you mapped out, number 4, which you list as a...

Re: Rock-ola CD-8 CD player plug

Terminals # 10 and #11 on the J1 plug going into the CD player are the chassis and internal ground wires. The mystery wire is a power communication wire that -I guess- relays data back to the computer. Would that be grounded too? Incidently, there is an exact twin to my box on ebay right now. If it ...

Re: Rock-ola CD-8 CD player plug

Ok, here are a couple of pictures! The first shows the wiring harness with its three plugs: the cd player plug is the central white one (note the dangling wires!), the plug closest to that one is the 16 pin power source plug and the one with the warning label tied off near it is the 30 pin, P2 compu...
