Re: Rockola 429 sound

What MattTech said. From what I can see it has: top row-( 2) 7868's, (2) 12at7's, (2) 7868's Middle- (2) 6cy7's. Bottom row- (1) 12 au7. There are two white things that aren't labeled as well. Not sure if those are the 6bq5s. I just spoke to the guy over the phone. may not have been an expert, just ...

Re: Rockola 429 sound

Thanks everyone for the replies. It is indeed a tube amp from 1965, so I'm sure it could use a tune up! I did contact an "expert" who said, based on the tubes I was describing to him, it would be very hard to find replacements. In your opinion, would it be better to convert to something el...

Re: Rockola 429 sound

I have gotten my Rockola 429 in decent shape. I'm enjoying hearing these old records! as winter forces me inside, I intend to finish it. Here are a few issues I'm curious about: 1) my amp seems to take a while to warm up. No sound until about mid way through the first selection. Then no problems. 2)...

Rockola 429 sound

Hi all, I have a question regarding the sound of my Rockola 429. After a long break I decided to get back to work and see if I could get some sound. I was operating in the assumption I had amplifier issues but found that it was simply a few loose connections prohibiting the sound! I have a few quest...

Re: amplifier issues

**Update** I was finally able to get some sound out of my Rock ola 429. However, after about three plays of Elvis' "Blue Christmas" I can hear nothing out of the speakers. I originally got it to play by blindly jiggling some temporary connections I had made on the wire between the needle a...

Re: amplifier issues

Here are some pics of the amp while installed. I think everything is plugged in properly, except for a wire that has been severed from the low bass unit above the credit unit. Also, the terminals on the right have some wires attached but go to no speakers that I'm aware of. maybe you guys could let ...

Re: amplifier issues

Thanks for the replies. Yes, I WANT to keep the original amp, I just want to know if it's working correctly. From what I can tell, the tubes are tooi hot to touch, and some glow orange on a small spot inside them. It's a Rockola 429 Starlet by the way. Also, the previous owner wrote on the amp the w...

amplifier issues

Hello all, I have my machine back together! Everything appears to be working, except the one area I have neglected so far, sound! I have been doing my restoration with the amp unplugged ( per a post I thought made sense) and am just turning my attention to it. I plugged it in and it does seem to do ...

Re: Rockola 429 Write in and home switch

I think I found the solution for the pushbuttons always selecting 0. Apparently while disassembling, I caused a contact to make constant connection. It happens to be the contact actuated when a number is pushed! So with it already making contact all I had to do was push a letter! I backed it off a b...

Re: rockola parts / different models

Thanks for the reply Ron. I don't see the link I assume you posted. Perhaps I should actually try on a PC instead of a phone! Anyway, to be more exact, I am looking for a tone arm, cartridge, and needle for my RO 429. I can find exact replacements for the last two but the arm and the wire that goes ...

rockola parts / different models

Hello all, After seeing what works well and what doesn't or is missing on my ro 429, I began looking for parts online for replacement or spares. The problem is that I can't always find one from my specific model. For example, I may find a turntable assembly for a 427 or 432, but not a 429. So my que...

Re: Rock-ola 429 in free play?

Adjusting that acre seemed to help. It still misses every now and then. I'll play with the tab to see if it better. Thanks everyone.

Re: Rock-ola 429 in free play?

I'm not sure by what you mean by dog. I know the system works when I move that arm by hand. Yes that tab is bent slightly. Perhaps too much causing it I slide off the gear?

Re: Rock-ola 429 in free play?

Hey Clones, Sorry it took so long to reply. But here is a picture of the pricing unit. Like I said i can manually operate it and the crdits get removed but when it happens during the cycle, it doesn't. Does everything look to be in order? My theory is that the small tab (pointed to) isn't "stif...
