Re: Rockola 442 buzzing lockbar solenoid and "now playing" wheel alignment

Clones and Ron: thanks for your replies. Ron, from your reply it sounds like the solenoid is more likely at fault than the leaf switch contacts. Regarding the solenoid, should I remove the pin and clean it in any way? It's the one place I didn't use contact cleaner and Deoxit. Should I? I have anoth...

Rockola 442 buzzing lockbar solenoid and "now playing" wheel alignment

Hello. I have an issue with the lockbar solenoid buzzing occasionally. First I need to mention that with this machine, all contacts everywhere were burnt, corroded, or both. I've cleaned all more than once, but one needs more attention. I just don't know which one. It's now running very well except ...

Re: Rockola 480 opto & display

AS of this date, that 480 is one of the two worst things I ever bought (the other was an old Ford Bronco II). I never resolved the issue and shelved the project in favor of a string of older mechanical models. Good luck with yours. I'll watch this and see where it leads. Maybe I'll take another shot...

Re: Rock ola 460 credit switch and remote volume and cancel control.

The 460 has a mechanical credit unit that can be altered to freeplay without doing any damage. Unlike models a bit earlier, establishing credits does not engage and heat the lockbar solenoid, To play without coins, first establish credits; multiple credits if you have the album unit and want both cr...

Re: Rockola 425 Write In problem

Darrell: your 425 is a step or two older than anything I have, but I had a similar issue with my 442. In that case, it was the second time I cleaned the contacts in the write-in relay and in the credit unit that it finally stopped and hammered a pin.

Re: Rockola 425 nterlock Relay

Just a stray thought here, but look at the drawing in the service manual showing the positions of the interlock in the control box at different sequences. Look at your interlock. On a couple of my machines, this was tripped in the wrong position. Manually tripping it with a non-conductor (very impor...

Re: Rockola Turntable alignment

Well, this problem's resolved. As noted in the replies here, that turntable can not be aligned or, for that matter, misaligned. I watched the gripper in action several times and finally discovered what the problem was. I'd noted in the beginning of this thread that the tone arm rest was bent. Actual...

Re: Pulling the A-B cam from a Rockola 437

Eddie: I was able to free mine up by liberally oiling with 20-weight while rotating the drum by hand with the motor disengaged. IF yours is the same as what's on the 442, the dog is clipped to a piece that's bolted in place by two screws and has the spring-loaded linkage connected to it. You may be ...

Re: Rockola Turntable alignment

Guys: Thanks for your replies. I'd already had the gripper apart, since it started out completely frozen. All inner parts are shiny clean and well-oiled. Riley: the inner gripper travel on your video is about what I'm seeing here. Thank you for posting that clip. Clones: there's definitely something...

Rockola Turntable alignment

I'm still going through this Rockola 442 and this issue has my stumped. The turntable appears to be out of alignment with the gripper. When the record is placed onto the turntable, it misses, not coming down centered on the hub. The gripper does fully retract, but the record will often strike the fi...

Re: Transporting a Jukebox

Doghouse: In addition to the other things mentioned to secure, tape the ends of the fluorescent tubes or remove them, and take a good look at how the slug rejector is secured. When I transported my 442, that thing fell during the trip. Probably didn't hurt anything, but it made a loud bang and gave ...

Re: Rock-ola 464 insert coins light won't light

Hello. I've got a 464 and I've pulled the reset pawl to free-play the machine. This is safe because the lock bar does not energize until the 2nd digit is pressed, and it's easily reversed. The Insert More Coins lamp will not light unless the pricing scheme is enabled by changing the settings in the ...

Re: 1964 Rockola 414s - Over-Travel (Gear Jam) When Placing Record on Platter

Chris: Welcome. I've just gone through what you may be experiencing twice. Check my posts for the Rockola 459 and 442. The gripper release gear, Micros 1 & 3, and the interlock relay combine to either get this right or cause real [problems.

Re: Rockola 442 Latch Bar & A-Side Play

Thank you, Ron. The wobble plate switch is working correctly. I'll turn my attention to the write-in coils, contacts, and motor oiling next time I get to work on it.
