I wholeheartedly agree that electric motor powered phonographs are the best ones. An Edison class M electric cylinder phonograph from about 1890, being powered by single Grenet wet cell would be by far the best way to test brown wax blanks as they come off of the production line. That sure sounds like a worn out, flattened down stylus on your model H reproducer. When it gets worn flat, it can't reach down into the groove and therefore it can't pick up the vibrations nearly as well as it should. If you get a 30x loupe, you can see it.
