Re: 1936 Rockola B Tonearm Question

Believe it or not, the adjustment screw actually touches a contact to create the short. It is what provides the short to ground.

Re: 1936 Rockola B Tonearm Question

Well, I found out that the missing part is just a switch that shorts the cartridge input line to eliminate noise from the amp when the tonearm is in resting position. Also, there is no arm lifting mechanism on this machine. The turntable (record) just picks up the arm, on it's way up and plays the r...

1936 Rockola B Tonearm Question

What is supposed to mount on the tab that I have circled? There is an adjustable screw on the arm that aligns with the large center hole. I am missing this part from my jukebox. Also, how is the tonearm lifted up and lowered onto the record? I don't see a mechanism to do that. Thank you. http://img....

Re: Replacing Astatic B cartridge

Great answer Eddie !!
So if I stick with a 2 mil needle, then it sounds like I need not worry about what era the record was produced in.

Re: Replacing Astatic B cartridge

most people aren't schooled in the difference in early 78s vs Microgroove records. Most people tend to buy records they like. A lot of people like later, rather than earlier stuff. A lot of what people "like" will be on microgroove and the 3 mil stylus is too wide for the grooves. There i...

Re: Replacing Astatic B cartridge

So would the 51 be a better choice than having the original rebuilt? It certainly is less money. I would assume that the sound is as good, or better than the original. But how about the lower output level of the 51, will it be noticeable? Lighter tracking weight = less wear, so that would be a good ...

Re: Replacing Astatic B cartridge

So MattTech, you recommend the Pfanstiehl P-51-3?
Would I be able to use it without amp modifications? or would a pre-amp be necessary?

Thank you.

Re: Replacing Astatic B cartridge

Indeed, I did state in my original post that it is from a Rockola B. This dates it at 1936. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v223/polaraligned/IMG_3437.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v223/polaraligned/IMG_3436.jpg I appreciate the help. From what I have been able to gather, these have a 3 vo...

Re: Replacing Astatic B cartridge

Thanks Ron. I can't find a seller above that sells a direct replacement. NeedlesforJukeboxes.com told me that there is no direct replacement. Google does not seem to help me locate a replacement. What I did find is that West-Tech Services rebuilds these cartridges for $55 postpaid. Seems fairly reas...

Replacing Astatic B cartridge

I have one in a Rockola B, and I assume that it is no good as I heard the crystal fails with age. (I currently am in the midst of a mechanical restoration) What are my options for replacement? I don't mind making a physical mounting modification to get the new cartridge installed, but I assume I wil...
