Brunswick Cloth Color

Does anyone know the correct material color for the tone hole cover on a 1918 Brunswick ultona console. I have seen some red ones but not sure if that is original. My cloth was there but faded, now a brown/copper color.

Oil type

What type of oil is recommended for players. The oil that came out of the oil pan of my brunswick looked like automobile engine oil. I would think sewing machine oil would be good.

Re: Number of cranks

Thanks for the info. That link did not work for the manuals. I noticed a couple of things about my machine. 1. when I crank it way up, it speeds up 2. when I put the arm down the drag causes the record to slow way down. I have tried adusting the speed lever and weight to lighten up the arm, neither ...

Number of cranks

Can someone tell me what the typical number of cranks or procedure is to wind up a 1918 4 spring brunswick. Thanks.

Re: Help with Brunswick Ultona

Well, in trying to save $$ and buying from Wyatts Musical instruments, I got royally screwed. He messed up my order and is difficult to deal with. Live and learn.

Re: Types of 78's

Is it easy to identify between the two types of recording methods?

Types of 78's

Are there different type of 78's before vinyl and if so can they be played on different types of players. I have a record from the 20's and played it on a 1940's record player and it seemed to play ok but I dont want to damage it. Could I play a 1940's record on a victrola without damaging the record?

Re: Help with Brunswick Ultona

You make it sound easy. I would me amazed if I could get enough clearance to get a cutter between the spring and barrel to cut that wire. The other issue is greasing the spring. If dropped in, how is the entire spring surfaces coated? I'll take pics when the spring comes.

Re: Help with Brunswick Ultona

I saw his site. $38 + shipping seems a bit much. Especially since I may need a few and thats more then the I paid for the machine and/or its worth.

Re: Help with Brunswick Ultona

Shane, great pics. I think the springs are broken and I am at the barrel separation stage. Is it safe to open the barrels or is there a chance the springs will fly out? I was thinking of inverting a plastic milk crate, barrel inside and then a coat hanger to release the spring.
