Magnavox MX850 Record Changer service information needed

Howdy Doody, Am looking for the Magnavox Service Bulletin 5263 which covers the MX850 record changer. I've looked high and low on Riders and Sams and can find NO information on this unit. Not sure who made it, but suspect Webster-Chicago but don't find anything anywhere near what this unit looks lik...

Re: Capehart 16-E Flipover Changer

My Rodgers is from about 1981-85 or so. It is a 'church' variety model Providence 900B which is equipped to interface via multiplex with 9 ranks of pipes. It has 2 main generators, plus a 61 note celeste generator. Quite effective with 6 100 watt amps in the console and 7 speaker systems including a...

Re: Capehart 16-E Flipover Changer

Unfortunately, I haven't yet done anything more on trying to change over the cartridge to a GE style which I'm sure would produce much better results. Alas, the tracking force issue. I'm not sure what the GE is rated at but probably quite a bit lower than 20 grams!. I suppose this is one of the reas...

Re: Scott 311D FM Tuner Mono Tube

Filter caps have been replaced and other electrolytics. But, I'm hoping someone else that has one of these may comment on whether this meter functioning the way it does is normal or not. The sound is crisp and clear and the tuning function works just fine pulling in all kinds of stations close to ea...

Scott 311D FM Tuner Mono Tube

Just acquired this nice little gem and it is working just fine and pulling in quite a few stations even in my fringe area. It has one rather annoying item that I am wondering about. The tuning meter seems to quickly move back and forth, almost in sequence to the audio signal. I am wondering if this ...

Praise of Shure SC35

Recently I updated a Maggy/Collaro record changer with a new Shure SC35 cartridge/needle. These are fantastic and I am very happy with the results. My collection of discs has never sounded better. Seems like distortion is non existant even on some old discs. Pops, classical, theatre organ, classical...

Re: Magnavox Micromatic Cartridge and Needle

From the several Maggies that I've had, many had ElectroVoice Cartridges with either #26 or 126 needles as I recall. These were flip under cartridges which had two separately replaceable needles. They are still readily available for both LP and 78. Good luck on finding a good cartridge however. Some...

Re: Maggy changer magnetic cartridge.

Great information on the Collaro changers from Magnavox. The original changer in my console is from about 1959. It does have the record size seeking function and was actually working very well. I had replaced both idlers with redone units and the speed and change cycle were working quite well, as wa...

Re: Capehart 16-E Flipover Changer

This is quite interesting information and I'll use it as I can in stacking discs in the Capehart. Since most of the records produced have no written indication of when they were produced it still can be difficult to determine what it is that you may have in your inventory. Just looking at the labels...

Capehart 111M2 Update

Just thought I would share a few items now that I am 99% finished with my restoration of this machine from about 1941. After getting the mechanism of the 16E Flip over changer restored I still was not happy with the reproduction of sound from the 78's. There was a very annoying flutter in speed espe...

Re: Capehart 16-E Flipover Changer

Update on trials and errors with the rebuilt Astatic B-2 cartridge. I was complaining of low volume (in my opinion) coming from the cartridge so as recommended by some others I tried a couple of different preamps to boost the signal level. The best result and quite satisfactory was with an old GE UP...

Maggy changer magnetic cartridge.

I recently finished restoring a Maggy Concert Grand and decided to see about updating the record changer to a magnetic cartridge for several reasons. The 1st reason was that it seems that the ceramic cartridges tend to pick up the sound of the motor/mech of the changer. So - I had a somewhat newer M...

Re: Capehart 16-E Flipover Changer

So far my unit seems to be handling the records just fine. NO breakage noted of any kind. Occasionally I'll see some chips from the edges, but I attribute this to age of the discs. I've replaced most of the felt where the records touch, and the "well" where the records drop in the back I'v...

Re: Using preamp for ceramic/crystal cartridges??

Thanks for the reply and great information. I'm surely not a purist and will try your suggestions. I do have one of the GE preamps which I believe uses a 6SC7. And also have the stereo transistor preamps. Will try both. Pulling the tuner chassis is kind of a chore so will try and not do that any mor...
