How many plays, on average

This is a question mainly for those who are or have been operators. On average how many plays would a jukebox from the early 1960's have on it? I don't think there is any way to know exactly how many is on any particular machine (especially like mine which meter stopped at 5,300) but what is your be...

Re: Seeburg mechanism repair project

Thanks for the replies, your suggestions are very much appreciated. I hope to buy the mech guide but not at the moment. Probably after the seasons are over. In the mean time... I got the clutch back in and did the 4 adjustments according to the manual and it seems to be working perfectly through the...

Seeburg mechanism repair project

I noticed the mechanism in my AY160 began making a repetitive clunking sound and I recognized it as probably being a malfunctioning clutch. I had gone through the manual's lubrication procedure when I first got the jukebox a few months ago. I noticed a couple "to do later" problems as I ha...

Re: My Intro and a Seeburg AY-160

I've tackled the project of removing the aluminum speaker screen in the previous post. This is how I did it, if this will help anyone. 1. Unplug the jukebox. 2. Remove both speakers. 3. Remove the three grill crowns by unscrewing them from inside the cabinet. 4. Open the upper back of the cabinet an...

Re: Seeburg 3W1 wallbox selecting wrong record

On both latter and number clappers there are two sets of contacts. The innermost sets on both letter and number charge the hold magnet. The outermost one on the letter clapper charges the transfer relay. The outermost on the number clapper charges Timing relay#1. First pulse arrives and both letter...

Re: Cleaning 45's

I recently bought a batch of about 700 45's from Craigs List. I went through the whole lot to determine quality. In fact finished the last record yesterday, spread over several weeks. Potential candidates were washed and this is the method I used which worked pretty good. I used an old 60's style sc...

Re: Program organization and change over

Thank you for the replies, you all have some great ideas and information. I have printed my program labels with the sides mixed up. I have new diamond Seeburg Pickering T needles so I plan to use the total count meter to measure 500 plays and swap needle cartridge sides. I think the combo of mixed l...

Program organization and change over

My jukebox is for home use and I am hoping it will be with our family for many years. It's not used commercially. I've got a huge lot of 45's from Craigslist which I am currently going through. I'm sampling them each individually. Records with worn/dredged out grooves and/or scrached are tossed. All...

Re: Rock-ola 414 issues

This is how I check a micro switch with an analog meter. I use the 100 ohm scale and test the NO side. I click the switch to see near zero ohms, then *slowly* release the actuator until it clicks back open. If the meter needle jumps while I'm moving the actuator then I consider it a bad switch. Same...

Re: My Intro and a Seeburg AY-160

I solved my lack of treble issue by switching off the speaker crossover network. I have another question if you don't mind. I now find the aluminum speaker mesh rattles. I'd like to remove it for a good cleaning and add some material like felt behind it. I see that I'll need to remove the 3 ornament...

Re: My Intro and a Seeburg AY-160

Slowly but surely I'm getting all the needed work done on this phono. I picked up the rest of the caps needed to re-cap the amp, and a couple final ones which was left to do in the controller. The amplifier had a couple problems. First problem was distortion. You could queue up a dozen songs and you...

Re: Question about needles and interesting photos

Thanks for the comments. "There was a time when records were purposely made to ware-out needles." I have a 1916 Victor Victrola and it's 1 needle per play. I have a magnified view somewhere of a "thick" steel needle, a before-after playing of a single 10" acoustic record. Th...

Question about needles and interesting photos

I have recently got a Seeburg AY160. I was curious about the T diamond Red Head cartridge needle condition since their age is unknown. I got out the old microscope to take a look. Here is what I found. Sorry for the blurry photo, I couldn't seem to keep the camera from focusing on the reticules inst...

Re: Seeburg Blackhead Cartridge Questions

I also could not find any new production T style Red head needles. All the sources I've found have been discontinued.

Ive even been asking around the net for someone who can fit new diamond neele components on my existing mounts. (No luck thus far)
