Victrola 9-54 at cowboy museum

I'm sure all of you remember William S. Hart and Hoot Gibson. What did they have in common? They were both cowboy stars in silent movies and they both owned Victrola 9-54s! And they both have museums made out of their homes. I have not been to the William S. Hart museum, but I read that his Victrola...

Victrola Electrola 9-54

I am currently restoring a Victrola Electrola 9-54 (1928). The Radiola 64 was rebuilt and is working. It has Victor's second record changer and that is what I'm working on now. I'm trying to figure out how to reconnect it to the amplifier. I have the schematic from Nostalgia Air, but it is very hard...

Brunswick Panatrope what are the right tubes?

I am starting to restore a 1926 Brunswick Panatrope model P-9, so I printed out the schematic from Nostalgia Air. It is a phonograph only model with no radio. It has four vacuum tubes, but the schematic only shows three? but they also mention a fourth tube, so I'm confused. The schematic shows the U...

Re: Just acquired a 1926 Brunswick Panatrope phonograph

I can see that many wires are fixed to the cabinet. Should the amp remain in the cabinet for repair, or can you take the amplifier out?

Just acquired a 1926 Brunswick Panatrope phonograph

Hi, I just acquired a 1926 Brunswick Panatrope phonograph . It has what is called a "Tomcat" amp. Are these hard to repair? Does anyone know where I can find anyone who can work on these beautiful phonograph? My Panatrope does not have a radio. All the tubes are there. I am anxious to get ...

Just aquired General Motors radio phonograph 1930

I just aquired a General Motors radio/phonograph with a Capehart drop changer. I'm told it's from 1930. I've heard of General Electric, but has anyone heard of General Motors radios in cabinets with phonographs? Thanks.

Re: How do I go about dating my Panatrope?

I own two acoustic Brunswick Panatropes. There is not a lot of info on Brunswick, but we know some basic dates. The first Panatrope Exponential types had Spanish names, for ex. Madrid, Valencia, Cortez, etc. I think they were copying Victrola's Credenza, Consolette, Granada, etc. Then about 1927 Vic...

Speed screw for Victrola 9-54

I need a speed screw for my Victrola Electrola 9-54. It is 3 1/2 inches long with a round, knurled, circular knob for turning. I took a picture of one, which a friend loaned to me. I will post it below: Thanks, Marc.

Re: RCA Turntable Console - VFR-05W???

Last year I saw an RCA console circa 1970 on Craigslist for $50. I called the guy and he said it had great sound, but you had to plug in a dvd/cd playing in the aux. jacks to get the good sound. The record changer needed some work and new cart. Some of these old console can have great sound, but the...

Re: Help with my RE-45

Sounds like you need a pickup rebuild. It is attached right behind the pickup. You just unscrew the screw on top, making sure to save the nut below. Then send the pickup to George Epple. <gkepple@verizon.net> He has rebuilt many of these for me and just rebuilt my RE-75 pickup, which is the same as ...

Re: RCA Victor Magic Brain Record Changer

I have been studying the RCA Victor record changers of the early 40s, and I have found that the term "Magic Brain" record changer does not necessarily mean the changer with the tandem tonearms. The V-205, V-209 of 1941, and the V-215, V-219, and V-221 of 1942 all have the more conventional...

BTH tone arm

I have a BTH tone arm with magnetic cart., which is a mid-1930s tone arm from England. It is for steel needles. It is supposed to be superior to American tone arms of that era. I am trying to put together a vintage phonograph with good components that will play old 78s from the 20s and 30s well. Any...

Re: Do I have a Pooka in my house?

No, it is just a regular power strip. A friend said it could be that the AC/DC motor just draws so many amps that the TV, which might be on the same circuit, is robbed of enough power to stay on. What really floors me is that the TV turns back on when the record finishes and the shut-off turns the m...
