Re: Amplifier SHFA4 questions (Problems Sovled)

I want to thank both of you Ron and Rob for all your help and information. The amp sounds amazing. Problem solved.

Re: Amplifier SHFA4 questions

Ok, I have resolved the scratchy white noise issue. It was a new but bad coupling capacitor just after the plate output of the 6EU7. I had taken some things for granted. Some of my tests were while it was still in the jukebox... namely if the noise is coming from both sides or just one. It's a bit h...

Re: Amplifier SHFA4 questions

This is all valuable information, thanks for sharing it. Those grid resistors sound like a good thing to add. Rob: The hum is 60hz. It is very faint, but there none the less. The hum is not effected by the volume control position, just the scratchy white noise. I have picked up the power supply repl...

Re: Amplifier SHFA4 questions

Thank you for the reply Rob. The noise is coming out of both sides. I can rotate the balance pot to each extreme and definitely both channels make the crackling white noise. That led me to believe it may be a power supply issue, and my biggest concern operating the jukebox was the low level hum, kno...

Amplifier SHFA4 questions (Problems Sovled)

I have a Seeburg AY160 which had a lot of problems, it's been a rebuild project since July and fixing this amp will finally finish it. Sometime last fall I had replaced all the electrolytic caps, including the ones someone else install in a "botched" repair. I did not replace any resistors...

Re: Now Enjoying the Magnavox of my dreams

Hi Mike, it's nice to see such a beautiful antique stereo in possession by a person who truly appreciates it. I understand the desire to play it before the chassis has been restored. I've gotten antiques before and used a line cord which I put an in-line fuse rated a bit below what the device was su...

WTB: Relay and test terminal cover

I have a Seeburg AY160 which has the transistorized speed control TSAU which is missing the relay cover. It also has the electrical selector TES165 missing its test terminal cover.

I'd like to try and find these two covers before I craft one myself.

Re: Seeburg SS160

This is how I rebuilt my AY160 amplifiers and slection receiver. It didn't cost too much except for time. I've been soldering for about 40 years and repairing/refurbishing old radios/phonos for about 23 years. 1. First I drew a map of the component connections to avoid any furture reassembly confusi...

Re: Seeburg Wallbox V-3WA Chrome

Thanks Ken.

My box isn't too bad. Usual pinhole pitting on much of it. I was mainly interested in ideas of what causes it to begin with, and how to preserve what it already has. :)

Seeburg Wallbox V-3WA Chrome

Hello. I assume the Seeburg Wallbox V-3WA's chrome was smooth and beautiful when new. It seems the vast majority of them have developed chrome problems such as pitting and flaking. Mine is no different. It still generally looks very nice however it suffers the same issues. Zillions of those pin-pric...

Re: My vinyl record cleaning machine project

As a teaser, here's the video result of my first experiments. YouTube has stretched its aspect ratio? Anyway... This is not a finished project by any means. I am testing how well the vacuum from the AC compressor removes fluid from a record. It's a video of fluid pick-up and NOT how to clean a recor...

Re: My vinyl record cleaning machine project

Thanks for the comments. I haven't posted in a while but my project is still very much alive. I have several other projects going and I've found the time to do some practical experiments using the AC compressor as a vacuum pump to remove the fluid from the record. This is a fun project I'm doing and...

Re: Pride & joy items from the built to last days.

The problem today is getting the replacement parts. They still make the O-rings, but they switched from AC to DC in the late 1970s, so coils for the earlier AC ones are hard to find. I rewound a few, using the specs in parts catalogs (wire size and number of turns). There's quite a few people still...

Re: My vinyl record cleaning machine project

Thank you for the kind support. Yea I remember those cool vacuum machines advertised on TV but never had one myself. These are the basic key parts to my project. Yes I know they look terrible, dirty and rusty. I want to build a basic prototype and see it work before cleaning it all up else waste the...

My vinyl record cleaning machine project

I plan to build a semi-automatic record cleaning machine and I hope nobody minds if I document the progress here. The principal follows the usual design found everywhere on the net. Put the record on the platter, make it spin and apply cleaning solution. Brush the fluid in and vacuum it out. Some de...
