Re: Fake record?

I didn't know they made quad 45's... but it's like you said, "You learn something new every day!" I bet it would really sound good on a quad system! My quad records always have a deeper stereo separation to my ears.... Everybody hears something different, however!

Re: Question or help

The typical "Introducing The Beatles" fake is in a stereo sleeve but the recording is actually mono. Typical clues for a fake include: - the white "Stereophonic" banner at the top - the last track on Side One is "Love Me Do" and the first track on Side Two is "P.S...

Re: Fake record?

Most, if not all quad records use a different mix than that of its stereo counterpart. When some songs were re-mixed... they added (quite by mistake, I'm sure) things that were left out of the original stereo mix. Examples: "Say Has Anybody Seen My Sweet Gypsy Rose?" by Tony Orlando and Da...

Re: Surface quality of various companies.

I'd like to offer my opinion of the 33 RPM singles from Columbia but the couple I do have aren't in the best condition. That microgroove doesn't hold up very well over the course of nearly 60 years. I don't think it's the record that didn't hold up well... these things were made in '49-'51.... Have...

What did they say? 160rpm? Can you imagine having chunks of that thing flying at you? OUCH! I'll see if I can't find any photos of the grand opening of the Flat Iron building in NY that have the Brutus player in 'em!

Re: 45 adaptor drags on GE Portable..

Okay, so I'm having one of those "feeling nice" moments. If you are still having a problem with your adaptor, and can't find any of the plastic, yellow ones... I'll send you some. Do you want them? Just send me an IM with a shipping address, and I'll send off about 10 of 'em to you. I hate...

Re: I hate to say this, but...

You are 100% right! I keep mine around as a discography, and more often than not, use it just for that. Value is based on what someone will pay for an item, and what you yourself are willing to pay. It's also good to keep you from getting screwed on common record that you've, by some strange reason,...
