Re: Magnavox Micromatic Cartridge and Needle

Ok Ron. I appreciate it. It works fine. I'm sure it's not going to hurt anything. It's probably just dust that's clung to it from humidity in the air. It very possibly could be the original one. It does sound good though. I've been playing the heck out of it.

Re: Magnavox Micromatic Cartridge and Needle

Ok. Just dry? Because it looks pretty dingy like the dirt has been dried and stuck there for the last 50yrs or so. Lol which it probably has!

Re: Magnavox Micromatic Cartridge and Needle

While on this subject, do you guys have any advice on cleaning an old cartridge? Looking at the area just behind the stylus I see quite a bit of dirt in there and would like it to be nice and clean but I don't want to do something to screw it up because they're getting hard to find and quite expensi...

Re: Where to buy plastic drive gear?

I found a donor turntable on eBay for $40 total. I decided to go ahead and take the gear out of it and use it in mine because I just don't want to have mine down long enough to make the mould right now. I might do it after I get my cobramatic up and running (just needs the idler refurbished). I just...

Re: Where to buy plastic drive gear?

I've been reading up on how to make plastic pieces and it's not that complicated. There are products you buy to form a silicone mould and pour the epoxy mix into the mould. All I need is a good gear to make the mould from and I will make a dozen or so gears to sell on eBay to recoup my investment co...

Re: Magnavox 'Spirit of 76' console turntable

Ron I found some free manuals over at http://www.vinylengine.com. They didn't have my exact model's manual but they had the micromatic. My model is pre- micromatic. I'm sure there will be useful material in it though.

Re: Magnavox 'Spirit of 76' console turntable

Well said and I agree with you completely. It just seems that some people on this forum are downright mean and condescending to some of the questions asked. I've always been the type of person to at least try to help someone. Even if it's frustrating sometimes. As far as the manuals what is, in your...

Re: Magnavox HELP!

I don't mind getting razzed for my screw ups. I admit carb cleaner was a bad idea for the plastic gear. However, it was very good on all the other metal surfaces that were caked with petrified bearing grease. I am usually excellent at "guessing" what is wrong with something when I have ver...

Re: Magnavox 'Spirit of 76' console turntable

See that's my problem too Ron. Everybody is very quick to say "Take it to a professional". But where are they? I've looked. They are few and far between. The closest reputable, recommended one I found is more than 4 hours drive away. My console is not worth the gas money and parts it would...

Re: Where to buy plastic drive gear?

Yeah that's what I figured. I always learn the hard way it seems but at least I learn. Pros weren't always pros. They had to learn what they know somehow and I love to learn. If I had a Pro nearby I would pay him to teach me everything he knows, but if there is one, I don't know where he is or how t...

Re: Magnavox HELP!

Maybe a bad wire or connection between the turntable and the main board. Sounds like it doesn't know there's a turntable hooked up.

Where to buy plastic drive gear?

Picture 2.jpg I was wondering if anyone knows where I can buy the green plastic intermediate drive gear for my Magnavox model K600? For future reference DON'T LET CARB CLEANER GET ON THIS GEAR!!! I found out the hard way that trying to clean off old grease with carb cleaner will melt this plastic g...
