Re: Magnavox Astro-Sonic Console Info Needed

Welp, I said screw it and bought a new cartridge. I have no clue if the wiring inside is proper, but guess I'll find out once I get this new EV 275 cartridge replacement and solder it on. I don't know why anyone would tamper with those wires going to the muting switch, and there shouldn't be any so...

Re: 62 magnavox wont eject at end of record

The details of the various changers are partly cosmetic, partly mechanical, and covered in the Magnavox Service Literature - which is way too much to type out here. Thanks, Matt. They are all so similar inspite of their cosmetic differences. I know the newer models have only one idler wheel for spe...

Re: 62 magnavox wont eject at end of record

If it's an M,K,L,R or S600 series model: Most likely a bent or binding Striker Feed Lever, Striker Arm, or Drive Release Lever. All of these changers need a mandatory thorough overhaul after decades of use. Matt, Can you, or anyone, describe these M,K,L,R and S600 series changers and their differen...

Re: Magnavox Micromatic 150927-2

Wow, from the looks of that, it appears to be some type of Astro-Sonic 100. I have several smaller units in the camp, but those AS 100's take music to another level. I paid $25 for a Santiago, having no idea what it was, and stacked it on in end with the other five or six back in the spare bedroom b...

Re: Magnavox Astro Sonic - need help identifying model

Hi Libby... I believe you have an early solid-state unit dating around 1965. I have a similar unit with similar components. Cabinets may have been used for several years, but if you take of the back and snoop around the radio chassis with a flashlight, you may be able to find some date stickers like...

Re: Magnavox Astro Sonic - need help identifying model

My Astro-Sonics Date from 1965 to 1968. I have a 1965 Astro-Sonic 100 Imperial (two woofers, FOUR horns, sealed speaker chambers with connecting acoustical tunnel) with the black curved tonearm. I also have two 1966 Astro-Sonic 100's that have the slender tonearm and still have the dual wheels. We'r...

Re: Magnavox phono cartridge 560305-1 replacement

Hey, Ruth... Welcome to the Board! Before ruling out a faulty cartridge, please check your cartridge wires and connections underneath leading to the preamp section of your unit. Scrap the console model number, but you are spot-on with the cartridge number. I've never seen a 560305, but with the numb...

Talk about expensive, back in 1966 with Magnavox... Home Maggie-01.jpg Santiago-03.jpg Optional reel-to-reel tape recorder for $249.90. Consoles come in so many shapes and sizes, hidden in coffee tables, credenzas, end tables, secretary desks, hutches etc. Credenza-02.jpg DrumTables-Pair.jpg DrumTab...

Hammond Oil (for those screaming tone wheel, tube models used in alot of rock bands and just about any Black church) also works well. It's supposed to be finer than sewing maching oil and is made to military specs, . Just some info shared from the past. --BB Bobby Basham Tucson, Arizona Hammond C3, ...

Re: Speaker Wiring, Magnavox Console

Ron, I noticed that some of these earlier stereo tube models used these seemingly strange (to me) unbalanced speaker configurations, the left side not matching the right. I've read very little literature on these older units, except from older brochures which give some explanation, so I'm completely...

Re: CLEANING

Thanks so much, Ron. So, this is something you've used on metal and wood (maybe simulated) surfaces? This would be great for cleaning/rinsing before applying whatever polishing agent you decide to choose. I have different products, but was just curious about the baking soda thing. Thanks again. --BB...

CLEANING

Hey Folks, I think it was on one of these boards that someone posted a link to a tutorial restoring a cheap 70's Sound Design component stereo. The instructor mentioned that he dissolved Baking Soda in some water and used it to clean the speaker cabinets. Has anyone ever heard of this? I know that s...

Re: Magnavox 'Spirit of 76' console turntable

I agree with Matt, and I can only speak for myself. I have sat down for many hours reading many books on the basics...found it rather fascinating and interesting. I never wanted to get into it with the goal of opening my own business, but the fact that being able to repair my own stuff is a great ac...

Re: Magnavox 'Spirit of 76' console turntable

Thom, I don't think you were on any soap box at all and are self-taught, for the most part, like me. What gets me is that these old electronics are still around and, apparently, are making some kinda comeback. You would think that alotta bucks could be made repairing said units since vinyl and relat...
