Correct Wurlitzer Tone Arm position

I have a Wurlitzer 412 with a P12 tone arm. It has been modified slightly with a modern Astatic cartridge. The problem is that it seems to be wearing the 78s out on the last 1/4 inch of the groves. Is it possible that the tone arm is off center? Where should the tone arm fall (start) on the record? ...

Re: Using a Seeburg 3W1 Select-O-Matic with

:D I finally figured out my 100G record reject problem. The trouble was at the trip switch. Tapping on in with the back of a screwdriver would get the carriage to finally load a record. This method of playing a record repeated several times. I removed the switch, Opened it up and sprayed contact cle...

Re: Using a Seeburg 3W1 Select-O-Matic with

When diagnosing the stepper is is important to note if the miscount occurs only in one stepper wheel -or both. Does it sometimes play a higher letter-number? this indicates that the wheels are gummy and not homing. Or does it always err on the low side by selecting a lower letter or number. Rob/NYC...

Re: Using a Seeburg 3W1 Select-O-Matic with

I was using the reject/cancel button quite a bit. It doesn't seem stuck. If I unplug from the selector unit, should that bypass the issue? Because it doesn't make any difference.

Re: Using a Seeburg 3W1 Select-O-Matic with

Thanks Rob. My last problem (I hope) is the records are loading and unloading without playing. I checked the manual and it says trip switch solenoide maybe grounded -Tony I just metered the trip solenoide (still connected) and it reads 6 ohms at the terminal strip. Perhaps it is the trip switch. No...

Re: Using a Seeburg 3W1 Select-O-Matic with

Thanks Rob. My last problem (I hope) is the records are loading and unloading without playing. I checked the manual and it says trip switch solenoide maybe grounded. I assume that means shorted. Could it be that it is just old and should be replaced? Or do you think it is related to the play control...

Re: Using a Seeburg 3W1 Select-O-Matic with

Ok, I am going backwards here. I was playing records to see which ones the 3W1 or WSR5 are selecting incorrectly when suddenly the carriage would stop at each record selection and load the record, then without playing, unload and repeat! I checked and the play control relay is staying closed, leavin...

Re: Using a Seeburg 3W1 Select-O-Matic with

Yes, I referred to the mech itself. As far as sound quality, that opens up a whole new topic. First off, what pickup are you using? The original was called a "blackhead": http://www.jukeboxparts.com/IMG_7824.JPG These were often replaced with the following year's "redhead": http...

Re: Seeburg 3W1 wallbox selecting wrong record

I am having the same problem. I have replaced all caps, and resistor 4 at the 2050 anode. After fixing a clipped 150v supply wire I got the 3W1 to finally trigger the 2050 tube. The selections were mostly ignored other than an occasional lucky letter/number combination. I removed the selector contac...

Re: Using a Seeburg 3W1 Select-O-Matic with

Ok, I just realized that later song titles are out by one. Selecting K1 plays J10. The A and B titles select correctly… do I need to adjust the selector plates? There are 2, which one controls the later titles?

Re: Using a Seeburg 3W1 Select-O-Matic with

Tony, I was just getting logged-in to tell you where the wire goes...but you found it. :-) Now that you'll be using it more, has the mechanism been properly oiled? Rob Do you mean the main motor/tone arm carriage? Yes, other than the selector unit the 100G had been fully restored/maintained and I h...

Re: Using a Seeburg 3W1 Select-O-Matic with

Ok guys. Success! The trouble was that the red (150v) stepper relay supply wire was clipped. The difficult part was to figure out where it tied in. It was at the 5uf cap [C3]. It was probably clipped because something shorted causing the 150v supply resistor [R4] at the 2050 tube anode (pin 3) to sp...

Tony, Got the service manual--read across the 150 volt winding --got it there ?? Ron Rich Ron I found the two150v wires. (Not [red] grr. One goes to pin 8 of the 2050 tube, the other is the clipped wire, surprise, surprise! I checked the wiring on the bottoms of the [unit] and [group] step relays a...

Re: Using a Seeburg 3W1 Select-O-Matic with

Find the common point where the two coils get the 150v and test to chassis ground, it is probably on the terminal strip behind the stepper. There should be no reading -open. Then hold down the transfer relay and check again. Again; no reading Rob Rob, I found the common point. It's at the terminal ...
