Re: one-off custom cut 45s, quality, durability vs pressing?

One off cuttings last far fewer playings than commercial pressings. Especially when played back on heavy pickup cartridges. One off cuttings are usually done on acetate based lacquer discs. Play them on lightweight tonearms and cartridges only

Re: Fake record?

Re: CD-4 Quad records, they did have superior performance but demanding on playback equipment. For correct CD-4 performance, you needed a correctly aligned decoder, a Quad cartridge with Shibata or Quadrahedron stylus tracking at really light weight and aligned and set up correctly on a quality turn...

Re: Columbia/Pye 1006/360 needle replacecement

A tip, Pye made this in England. Look for Pye Achoic Box needle replacements from English sellers (the Pye Butterfly cartridge is used here tracking at 2 grams force is used on this model). Garrard changer too. Very decent for such equipment and worthy of care.

Re: Basic Questions: Zenith Cobra-matic

The fact that yours is early Stereo indicates the fact that it is not a true Cobra cartridge. It is a VM changer (I think it is 1/2" mount too). So you likely have cartridge options here too.

Re: Ge portable turntable, nothing but humm.

I think his hum is most likely either a bad cartridge or electrolytic capacitors or both. A good unit to learn repairs on too with help. So, let's keep it friendly. All of us who repaired these oldies began with simple units and worked our way up the food chain.

Re: webor tone arm skate problem

You likely have a changer with gummed up lubrication or the tonearm wires are binding the tonearm mechanism. Hope you get it sorted. In the mono era, the Webcor changers were decent. They never got Stereo mastered satisfactory on vertical rumble, but GE never mastered Stereo either well. Hope I can ...

Re: White label Promo Stairway To Heaven

The USA White Label DJ only pressing of this is very collectable, worth $60 or so in Near Mint. A nice score! Even in VG still valuable. Never issued commercially on 45 RPM in the USA.

Re: American Top 40

Older ones like yours are very scarce, the discs did get sent to overseas stations, some aired the program (including some Australian stations). I have some from this era. The show debuted on July 4, 1970 and was distributed in mono only until later into 1973 when Stereo became offered. I work in br...

45M in a triangle is the common German designation for 45 RPM Mono single. Same with LP M means mono LP.

Re: What's Everyone been up to???

Been working on restoring two QRK 12C broadcast turntables which are going back into broadcasting service again, they're still used. They had been neglected for many years under the station's old owners. I've got one of them back to like new again in every way. Almost finished with the other one (id...

Re: Dual. Gebruder Steidinger was the original company in Germany who made Dual products. Their first phono product was something called a Dual motor (which could be either hand cranked or ran on AC current, hence a Dual motor). The company was later renamed Dual.

Re: magnavox micromatic turntable - new records keep skippin

It's likely that these new records are cut so hot your Magnavox's cartridge and tonearm can't track them. These old consoles were made for average records cut at average modulation levels. These new audiophile records don't have the bass heavily filtered out and volume levels lowered to earlier leve...

Re: Wurlitzer americano 3800 series

Other facts about the late Americana line from Wurlitzer. They pioneered a new record changer mechanism on these machines, made for a short few years. Many operators had myriad issues with these jukeboxes when new. Many were repaired by Wurlitzer under warranty, so many of them that it sank the orig...

Ron,

Glad to see this crucial reference back on the Web. Important to all Seeburg fans, especially critical for owners of post 1970 models. Jay, Thanks for putting this site back up. A memory to a fine gentleman and Seeburg historian,

When I am in Knoxville next, I'll look and see if I can find you one. If so, I'll let you have it for my cost. And I will try to get you a VG Plus or better condition example to boot.
