Re: Wurlitzer 2300S Refurb

got the amp and power supply back and the engineer ended up replacing a bunch of stuff on the top and under side of the amp. he also tested and installed the 4 NOS RCA 6973 tubes and provided the test results from each one. the large can capacitors had to be replaced as well. he had it hooked up to ...

Re: Wurlitzer 2300S Refurb

so i've started the reassembly of the cabinet which means i'm close to starting work on each subassembly. the amp and power supply are ready for pickup as well. the link below is a picture hosting site with the following photos: -the two newly veneered sides with front corner pieces attached -a 3&qu...

Re: Wurlitzer 2300S Refurb

that's a cool story about treewax. good stuff. a juke doesn't need it and if i left the wood finishing at this stage it is now, it would still look great. the wax just adds an almost imperceptible sheen to it. a warm feeling if you will. however, i don't want the wood sides to look like old furnitur...

Re: Wurlitzer 2300S Refurb

i don't know what the deal is with posting pics. i'm not doing anything different from the times that posting pics worked. paste wax sounds crazy i know and that's what i used to think. when done right, it doesn't look like wax at all and i've got a few pieces of mid-century furniture i've built usi...

Re: Wurlitzer 2300S Refurb

pic of the sides with front corner pieces attached and are now pretty much done. in about a week the finish will be fully cured and they'll get a coat of paste wax to bring out a very slight sheen. the inside of the walls as well as the base and front/rear of front wall have all been painted. next s...

Re: Wurlitzer 2300S Refurb

Yeah those pics aren't great. Once I get all the holes routed and the finish applied I'll post some better pics of the finished sides.

Re: Wurlitzer 2300S Refurb

It took about an hour per side to remove the old veneer and then sand off the last remnants to get a smooth surface. Despite the original veneer glue being almost 60 yrs old, it was still very strong. I then applied the 3mm baltic birch veneer, let that glue cure for a day, and then routed the exces...

Re: Wurlitzer 2300S Refurb

Good info fellas. Now that the cab is apart I got a god look at the speakers and they seem fine. No tears or any damage to the cones. The cab came apart fairly easy. The sides were screwed in place but the front of the sides is screwed and glued to the corner pieces and tongue and grooved. I separat...

Wurlitzer 2300S Refurb

I've managed to strip most everything out of the cabinet as well as remove all of the various pieces of cabinet trim. The disassembly was pretty easy and fortunately no stuck or stripped screws and it's going to be quite a luxury to have the parts machine next to it for reference when it comes time ...

Re: Seeburg USC1 Bandshell Purple plastic diffuser help

Gels as mentioned are probably your best bet but another option may be to use a piece of 1/8" acrylic (aka plexiglass) if you need something flat and rigid. Acrylic comes in transparent colors to include purple. It's easy to cut and machine. You could also use purple gel filter material taped t...

Re: Transporting Wurlitzer 2300

That starburst accent piece on the Conti 1 makes such a huge, mid-century styling statement that to me, is integral to the whole design theme of the machine. They must have discontinued using it because of cost reasons. If I had a Conti 2 I'd add it as well. I provided the guy with the schematics as...

Re: Transporting Wurlitzer 2300

Thanks Ron. It's gonna be a long project but I hope to have it done by Christmas. Regarding the Contis, I'm sure there are plenty of horror stories of the heads breaking off or close to it during shipping. I prefer the colors and the starburst accent piece of the 1st version but I'd count myself luc...
