Re: Need a Magnavox Regency Fm Tuner

Easier to find in the Northern US states, as more FM stations there. Hard to find, as most were sold without the FM tuner except in areas which had a good amount of FM stations.

Re: Cleaning 45's

But soap and water not recommended for those who use pickups tracking lighter than 3 grams. My method works for light weight arms and cartridges. Soap gunks up things and light pickups does not push the soapy residue aside.

Also don't be shocked at the price asked for the 45 changer spindle. They are rare in working order and in very high demand. Expect to pay $50-$60 for one.

Re: My Fisher squealed then smoked?

P.S. Smoke a Fisher Output or Power Transformer from the tube era, expect to pay $400-$500 for a rewind. Not cheap. Expert servicing could have prevented that failure. And no new replacement transformers easily had. Be forewarned.

Re: RCA Victor New Vista Restoratio / Restomod

Lower end Fisher consoles had ceramic cartridges by the way. And not all ceramic cartridges were necessarily inferior then either. The Garrard changers varied from high end to some which were very cheaply built (the late Unimechs were especially nasty). Also Fisher used some ELAC/Miracord, Dual, and...

I use half white vinegar/half distilled water on a slightly damped cloth. Dry with a lint free cloth. Vinyl safe and often gets years of grime off of vinyl. Carbon fiber brush pre play.

Re: Magnavox Astro Sonic - need help identifying model

Given the changer installed in it, it dates from 1963-1966. The changers were different in 1967 and were cost cut with the single idler wheel and the slim head.

Re: sound of record player to reciever.

Records will be quieter due to being far less compressed than the radio is. And the records must be cut at lower average levels to not burn out the coils on an expensive cutting head. That is assuming your player is in correct working order.

Re: Magnavox stereo console - what year?

The record changer dates this unit as 1967-1968 vintage. This has the newer style Micromatic with the slim head and single idler wheel. Which was the first thing cost cut on Magnavox consoles.

Re: Praise of Shure SC35

Also, on many of these, the M 35x will track lighter in many a Collaro changer. You can upgrade your stylus to the M 35x and track it at 3 grams, which will increase record life a bit and be comparable tracking force to mid 1960's Collaro changers used in Magnavoxes. A great upgrade either way. A va...

Re: Turntable Repair

Yes, there is a switch which turns the motor on/off when the tonearm moves. Also, this is a very complex changer which is not for the novice to overhaul correctly. This is a complex mechanism and very precision overengineered in the German manner. And never force anything on a Dual 1229, several ite...
