Re: Magavox Collaro

Thats exactly right. I had to tighten my adjustment a little on mine. just when the arm came down on the record, the changer would make it's reset sound (click) and the arm would jerk forward scratching into the first 2 or 3 threads of the record. This felt friction clutch gets rid of the too sloppy...

Re: 1960's collaro changer wiring

Disregard my post above. I found out the problem. Thanks.
PS the red and black wires get plugged in. The yellow wire was used for an amp. When the last record finished, the amp would shut-down also.

1960's collaro changer wiring

Hi again, I now have a 60's collaro changer that has 3 wires coming off of it, (red, yellow, and black). My 56 collaro changer has 2 wires and it was easy to figure out how to plug it in to the 120 receptacle. Which of the 2 wires on the 60's unit gets plugged in to the outlet. I had the yellow and re...

Re: Record Changer motors

I have worked on that motor for more than a week with the help of phonograph motor pros. It has come down to being a bad coil in the stator. the motor isn't frozen from the bearings, the coils are either shorted or they were overheated at one time. the armature doesn't want to spin inside the stator...

Re: Loud Hissing Noise

I tried these same problem records on a different player and the noise is still there.
That tells me that those certain records were ruined from someone elses player. These records were bought used.

Re: Loud Hissing Noise

Could it be that the records that are causing a problem be ruined from another player?

Re: Loud Hissing Noise

No. just when a certain couple of records are played.
I also noticed after the play that a filmy residue is left on the record and needle.
Could the needle be ruining the vinyl? Other records play nice and clear.

Loud Hissing Noise

What does it mean when you get a loud hissing noise while playing a record? Worn record?
Needle cutting in?

Re: Magnavox/Collaro changer problem

I did the grab the arm trick also and found that the arm actually did jerk a little. I did indeed found the cure. Underneath the changer is a small nut adjustment that puts a little friction to the arm to reduce erratic movements. If you go too far, the arm stiffens too much and the needle will skip...

Re: Magnavox/Collaro changer problem

Hi Bill, Thanks for replying, I tried adjusting the arm to go to the very start of the record but all that would do is jerk the arm more until it skipped a couple of threads. I even tried to adjust so the needle comes down on the actual playing threads and it still skipped a couple of threads when t...
