Re: Two problems with a V-M 956.

Never the less, it's slipping. Doubtful it's the motor. More likely the motor mounts, tension spring, FYI soft does not equal grip.

Re: PVCR-84 (Pictures!)

Ditto what Matt said. That static could be caused by a breakdown of the dielectrics in a capacitor causing AC leakage or a momentary short. This should be rebuilt before you use it or you may end up with a smoking pile of junk. Even if the static is caused by the connections or the Ipod the fact rem...

I don't live too far from Philly Matt. If I find myself in the area at some point I would love to stop by the shop and say Hi. That RCA is Gorgeous!

Re: 1963 Magnavox MicroMatic TONEARM RE-Wiring

#32 or #36 awg continuously flexible wire available from McMaster Carr. or look on eprey. You may want to try to save the shielding at least. Anything stiffer will hamper the movement of the tonearm.

Re: GE Console Record/Radio Player (1950s?)

I agree with Joe. Don't butcher it up. Sell it and get something designed to play what you want to play or find a decent stand-alone changer that is meant for LPs , stereo or otherwise. There is a bit of a learning curve with records so do your homework before you purchase something else you cannot ...

Re: RCA Victrola Console RP-217B-22

'capitols' is spelled 'capitals' - talk about insulting. Ah ha. Thanks for proving my point. Anyway, if someone can post a picture of the pin I'm sure you can fashion one. I often have to make parts that are no longer obtainable. It goes with the territory. You know the cartridge must have the abili...

"wish i knew - probably got drunk and tried playing my vinyl. couldnt find pin so going to have to go with silicone adhesive - sucks but will do the trick. thx again." You will destroy both the records and the cartridge in short order. 10 grams VTF on a stylus cradle designed to f...

Re: proper lubrication material suggestions

I use Zoom Spout oil and or sewing machine oil. For greasing I use a quality lithium grease. Be careful though, some spots are meant to be lubricant free to function properly. If you lube them it will mess things up for you.

Re: RCA Victrola Console RP-217B-22

The picture you showed from the voiceofmusic website is the correct clip. You push the long prongs up into the headshell. I would look underneath the record changer for the one you lost, they always end up there.. MattTech, RCA called it Feather Action, not Feather Ride. Usually in the changer pan.

You're going to end up rebuilding this changer anyway. Might as well do it right. Take a lot of pictures if you don't have the service manual.

Re: sears silvertone turntable motor help

If you have an VOM you can check the windings for an open. If so, it's shot. That almost never happens though. It's generally lubrication problems. Sewing machine oil or Zoom Spout Turbine oil works well on these. Best to take it apart and clean it if you know how.
