Loud POP at End of Record

Hi,

I have a Continental 1 with the mono amp. All working well except when the end of record switch activates, a loud POP! comes through the speakers. Sounds like electrical interference.

I have checked the switch and it looks fine and the connections are good. If I manually end the record (by the switch on the back of the juke near the volume control) it makes the same pop sound.

I have also checked, cleaned and adjusted the mute switch (in the amp), it also appears fine.

I can buy a new end of record switch (from England) if that would help but as the 'manual cancel switch' also make the pop sound, I doubt if that is the problem.

I think the problem is in the mute switch but don't know what else to do.

What else can I do? It is driving me crazy........Unfortunately I am not a technician and live in Australia with the closest jukebox technician 3 states away.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Gordo...........

Try connecting a suitably rated capacitor across the switch contacts to eliminate the pop.
Something like a 630 volt, 0.1uf cap.

If there's already a cap there, it might be shot and time for a new one.

Thanks MattTech,

I assume the cap goes between the wires leading into the mute switch (or do you mean on the end of record switch)? Is there a right direction for the cap?

End of record switch.
There is no polarity in those types of capacitors.

A couple of hints before you do this---
( I would properly clean the mute relay contacts before doing anything else, and check all audio, ground connections)
1. Be sure no one (even the factory) has added it --if so, just replace it, as you probably don't want two caps--
2. Add it to the rear "pushbutton" (external) reject switch rather than the "reject switch" that the tone arm "hits".

Hi,

It fixed the problem. Thanks!

I followed your instructions and the Pop sound has now gone. I cleaned all the contacts and put the cap in the switch.

To MattTech and Ron Rich, thanks so much for your time and advice.

Hi Ron,

I have a similar pop sound when I select a record (only when a record is playing and much less in volume).

It sounds like electrical interference again.

Is there a similar solution?

Regards

Gordo,
Check the caps in the pulse converter---they all do a little "popping"--
