Seeburg V200 Selection and speed problem

by cassie 1574 » Tue Apr 14, 2015 1:30 am

Hello All,

Can you please help me out with a Seeburg V200 problem. Your help would be very much appreciated with this annoying problem.

I have a Seeberg V200, lovingly restored Jukebox. The TSR3-L6 and Amp have all been re-capped with new tubes fitted. As I am in the UK I have a step down transformer to 120V with a frequency converter to 60Hz.

Here is the problem. Once the jukebox has powered up, it will run through several record selections with no problems at all. The problem comes after the machine has been switched off. Then on the next start up I have the issue. With the power on nothing happens until about a 60 seconds then you can hear the trip solenoid activate without inserting a coin or anything you just hear a click. Nothing moves at this point.

Now a coin is inserted and a credit obtained. As soon as a selection is made it instantly selects the record from its rest position on the carriage. Even though this was not the record selected. As well as this the motor now turns very, very slowly and seems to labour. I have to cancel this record and the carriage moves to the record originally selected. This one also turns painfully slowly. Now as the carriage now begins to move it starts to increase in speed. Usually by the third record the speed has reached its normal play speed.

From here I can select many records with no problems at all. I can use up all credits and leave the carriage at the right hand rest position. The next selections will be at the correct speed with no problems. The issue will not happen again until the power has been removed and then applied again.

Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Best Regards

Ian Kipling (St Helens UK)

Hi Ian,
The first problem--tripping, is usually a resistor, or other component in the TSR, that is not to spec.
You did not mention WHEN it was "re-capped "--but "re-capping" is not the same as re-building--could also be the 12AX-7 or 2050 tube--
Your 2nd problem may be in your frequency converter, or a lack of the correct oil, in the mechanism.

Hi again Ron,
Many thanks for your support and assistance with my Seeburg problems. I have been doing some more investigations into the issue. With regards to the speed miss-match I tried by-passing the frequency converter while the speed was running slow on start up. Immediately it increased even though it was now 50Hz it was much faster than with the converter. To this end I have concluded that there is a problem with the converter unit.
With the problem tripping at every start up. I changed the 2050 tube as you suggested and the problem vanished. To prove the point I replaced the tube and it came back again. Strange that this has failed as the re-built selection receiver was only done 6 months ago and all new tubes were fitted.
One more point. The capacitor part number 86174 fitted to the carriage between the motor windings is there to protect the points arcing I presume? In my book it lists a .1Mfd 600V Tubular capacitor. The one fitted to my machine is a different value to that. What is the correct capacitor for this position and is it an electrolytic?
Best Regards
Ian

Hi Ian,

Glad you found it--
The book says .1/600, paper--later info says to eliminate it totally !
