Astro Sonic Help

Hello,

I am a total amateur when it comes to electronics of any kind. I am one of those 20 something record lovers, who just got a 68 (I think), Astro-Sonic. It was well taken care of and everything works just fine, but for one thing. When it changes records, sometimes, not every time, it will lay the needle down on the record or a second, then go through the changing cycle again, and play the next record on the stack. I think there is a loose connection--but I could be wrong.

Any info on fixing this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

Check that the transit locks are fully off. If the transit lock is on, the changer repeats its cycle.

The changing system is purely mechanical. There are no electrical parts in the trip mechanism.

The changer can also repeat its cycle if it is not level, or if the part that pushes the trip parts back into place is bent or missing.

As far as I can tell all the locks are off, unless one of those smaller screws is a lock--I don't think it is (proof how little I really know about this machine).

Hey, Larry...

I think I had one instance where there was some gunk or some type of buildup in that area around those trip parts. A little cleaning did the trick.

I know most folks want to get these things up and running quickly to enjoy those prized LPs, but for me I found that getting an old junk turntable and toying with it, observing the change cycle, and taking it apart (yeah, who has time these days) really helped. The marvel of how these things operate with all their little parts in tandem is truly amazing. --BB

What part exactly would I need to clean?
