Hello folks,

I'm new to the Antique radio hobby(good for me, bad for my wallet) so i have no idea what to do next. I was given my Grandparents '57 Magnificent Magnavox Console with AM/FM tuner and Imperial Record Changer. It is a vacuum tube Amp and Tuner. The console does work, but the last time it was used before it came into my possession was over 30 years ago.

The model number on the back of the unit is Model number 1SR206H. The amp on the back says Amp 175 FF.

The Imperial changer needs a cartridge and stylus as the cartridge is cracked and the diamond stylus is completely worn out. I went to the local shop that still repairs old tube consoles and record players/changers but he didn't have a cartridge or stylus. I'm not sure what i need to look for the correct cartridge and stylus over the internet.

I've read about replacing the Paper and Electrolytic Capacitors in the unit since they dry out. How difficult is that to do for a beginner in the Vacuum tube amp arena or should i take it somewhere and have it done?

Amy information you folks can share with me will be much appreciated.

Thank you,

- Dave

Dave,
Try John at www.needles for turntables.com--he may be able to help--
As for changing caps--I would guess that this would be the same for this make/model as is everything else--a "learning process"--Do it, if you have any mechanical skills, have it done by a "pro" if you are afraid you'll "mess it up"-- Ron Rich
