ami ti 1 volume (balance)

by DEREK » Thu Nov 19, 2009 11:56 pm

ti 1 valve amp: more volume out of left channel than right hand channel swapped over the pre amp input phono leads it makes no difference, tryed to adjust balance on pre amp all it does is turn the left hand channel down the right hand channel stays as it is, had this fault for a while now, once tried another pre amp in the box and it made know difference have noticed on the valve amp there are two connector strips (phono speakers) right & left channel i'm not to sure which way round it is but one of the strips has 6 wires on it and the other has i think 2 on it i said i think because the jukebox is at my sister-in-laws about 80 mile away so i only get to play with it now and again the thing is i thought that these conector strips should an even amount of wires on them to balence out the stereo sound.
the other trouble is i onley have a manuel for a R-74 which solid state amp and i dont know if the wiring will be the same any help will be greatfully accepted.; thank's a lot "derek".

Has the amplifier been rebuilt? If not, then it may be time to replace some electrolytic capacitors and check for out of tolerance resistors.

Derek,
As Ken has stated, you may have some problems in the main amp--but as you have stated, you also have some connection problems at the out-put pack. I don't remember for sure, and don't have that manual either, but if the number of wires at the pack are the same on both models, I would assume that the connections are also the same. Ron Rich

Hi Derek,

You need to get the correct manual for the TI-1. As you say the amplifier is totally different, the pre-amplifier is in metal box above the amplifier and the output package is wired in a totally different way.

The R-74 manual is ok for all of the mechanical adjustments. The pre-amplifier drawing on the R-74 is the same as the pre-amp in your metal box.
These pre-amp are R-3788 (two wire volume control) and R-3805 (five wire split channel)

The amplifier in the TI-1 and TI-2 should be the 50 watt Rowe Ami 601-04359.

I would get the manual and start with the output package wiring. It should be.
Red. L.CH, E2
Green. L.CH, E5
Tan. L.CH, E6
Violet. L.CH, VIO-LF

Pink. R.CH, SPKRS-PINK
Brown. R.CH, E5
Blue. R.CH, E2
Yellow. R.CH, E1

Get the valves checked and take the amplifier to a specialist to get the caps replaced.
