Hi,

I have a Wurlitzer 1700 jukebox. I have just installed a wallbox and stepper.

The wallbox works well and requires coins, however, the latch bar solenoid in the juke is now constantly activated (it previously required coins to operate).

This means the juke now runs on free play. This does not worry me too much, however, will the solenoid be damaged by the constant power?

I am worried it may burn out (although it does not appear to be heating up).

You have me somewhat confused--installing a stepper should not cause the latch solenoid to energize ?
However, if you are saying that you "set it" on "free play", the Wurli solenoid, unlike other brands, can stand constant duty, as long as the resistor is in the circuit ( the resistor WILL get hot--you might want to change it to a 10 watt value). Ron Rich

I am also surprised that the juke is now in free play. The coin mechanism works if I add a coin, however it is no longer necessary.

I did not change anything in the juke, (apart from the 4 stepper plugs) just added the wallbox and stepper. I would prefer it remained on coin play.

So, to change the resistor, do I simply purchase a resistor with the same colour bands, but with a 10 watt value?

I assume it is on-line to the solenoid.

Yep--purchase a 10 watt resistor--You will probably NOT find "colour bands" on the original (5w), nor on the new one--
If you do not have a print, do the following to find out which of the two on the keyboard is the solenoid one: remove the "select lamps" and turn the phono on--in a few minutes the latch resistor will be "hot"-- (Can't tell you the value, as different values were used--gotta look at it !) Ron Rich

I read through the schematic. It appears to be 150 ohm.

You can not go by the schematic, in this case, as WurliTzer used a couple of different suppliers for the solenoid, and the values were different--should be "marked" right on the resistor--SOME schematics note this--others do not--
