I need help

by dangraves » Tue Aug 21, 2007 8:35 am

Hello,

I am new to the forum. I purchased my house 2 years ago and the old owner let me keep her Magnificent Magnavox High Fidelity. However it has been 2 years and I still have never used it. I tried turning it on once, the table spins and everything but I have no records, so I don't know if it works or not. Long story short, after 2 years I have never used it and realized I won't have time to toy with it for quite sometime so I would like to sell the unit. However I don't know how to find the model, the year, how much it is worth, etc... If someone could please help me out, it would greatly be appreciated. My email address is mrlincoln89@hotmail.com or I will keep checking this forum as well.

Thank You so Much,
Dan Graves :D

P.S. I have pictures I can post if need be.

Magnificent Magnavox

Hey Dan,

If you remove the back cover, you may see stickers on the lower edge of the cabinet indicating model, finish, run number, watts, etc. To get an approximation on the date of assembly, look for little stickers on the amp/receiver, such as 9/63 (Sept.'63). If the amp/receiver model is not stamped with a number, it may be on a small sticker also, like A-575-xx-xxx, or R201-xx-etc. (can't remember the exact scheme). If you look on the underside of the record changer, there may be some larger numbers like W615xxxxxxx. Some changers were only used for a few years before a newer version came out.

As far as value, it mainly depends on location. I've never paid more than $40 for mine and own nine of them. Then again, I don't think any of mine are labeled "Magnificant Magnavox High Fidelity."

Record Changer is the expert and may be able to help you. This sounds like something from the Pre- Astro-Sonic days. Is your unit Tube or Solid State? There is also a board called "MagnavoxFriends" that deals almost totally with tube maggies, very little about the Astro-Sonics 8-(

Best to you,
