Antique Apparatus RB8-CD Battery Question

I recently purchased a very nice Antique Apparatus RB8-CD jukebox with with Rowe mechanism and electronics. The jukebox has not been played in at least 10 years (the total play meter shows 4981 plays). The CDM-3 CD player was spinning, reversing and stopping, so I sent it off to Bruce Wentworth at A & B Jukebox Repair. The mechanism itself is not doing anything. I put it in service mode and press the scan button and nothing, but I am waiting to put the serviced CD player back in to see if it comes back to life.
My question is that since it has been sitting so long I am going to take the Central Control Computer (40832201) out and replace the battery. Can anyone tell me what kind of symptoms are present when the battery is dead? Thanks!

System batteries are for memory retention of settings when powered down.
Feedback signals from the CD mechanism are needed for specific functions to operate, thus "no operation" would result.

Depending on the CCC version, and the chip version, a failed battery can cause various "odd" things to happen in most Rowe equipment. In the case of a late 45rpm phono, or a CD phono, it is advisable to change the battery, and "default the system", prior to use. Follow the procedure in the Service Manual. Ron Rich

Will do. I'll post the results when I receive the player back from Bruce. Thanks

I received the CD player back from Bruce and it still spins for a minute and then stops. The mech does nothing in the service mode or play mode. I have all 3 LED's lit on the power supply. I did have a board error on the Central Control Computer but that error cleared when I replaced the battery (dated 1989). I now get the board error LED on the Mech Controller, with the only error showing that the outer cam switch is stuck. I removed the switch and it is operating correctly out of the jukebox. Could the Mech Controller be faulty and causing the mech to do nothing? It has been sitting since 2006.

Mark,
Could be "anything"--including a bad CDM-3, still ! You are dealing with Bruce, so why don't you axk him ??

Hi Mark,

If you had sent the CDM-3 to me I would have asked for you to send me the combined mech control/decoder (usually the decoder at fault) and the CCC. To make sure we could bench test all of the boards.

Alan
