Motorola 802 (12V Car)

by James_Douglas » Thu Apr 17, 2014 1:44 am

Hi All,

About 12 months ago I took my '49 Desoto car radio to John (a 90 year old) here in San Francisco that ran a TV-Radio shop for 60 years. He went over my radio and it was working fine.

I pulled the car out today and turned the radio on and I get nothing but a light hum with a louder thump. At the high end of the dial the thump has a longer period and lower sound and the low end of the dial the sound is lauder (higher pitch) and the cyclic nature of it is much faster.

Anyone have an idea of what this is? It has a modern vibrator in it. This particular radio is a bitch to get out fro under the dash. So I want to try and get an idea of the problem before I pull it.

Thanks, James
