Unfortunately, I think you are mis-understanding. This problem has nothing to do with the "top area" --
It is the area under the SA Unit, that I believe to be the problem.

Ya after I posted that I did some more reading in the manual and found the contact block to be on the lower back side of the mechanism.. am I correct...

Yep--now that you found it, look at the bracket that "guides" it. The contact block (aka "frog") should be INSIDE the U shaped holder. That holder should have a piece of "spring steel" on the left end that keeps the frog centered. What happens is, if you are lucky, the frog gets knocked out of the holder, and lands "on the bottom of", rather then "beside", that spring. If you are not lucky, one or both of the arms that support the bracket bend, or bust-- Try GENTLY pushing the spring to the left, and "pop" the frog into place. Ron Rich

YOU DA MAN!!!

The spring was out of place.... I popped it back in and all is well... One question when it has played it's last selection does it hold the last record in the mechanism or should it drop it back into the holder... this one holds it in the Mech until you select another record, then it drops it and moves the next selection.. Also is there a full manual available?

Thanks you so much Steve........

Steve,
Glad you got it--
A "full Manual" was never published by Seeburg. What they did in those days is have a "Master Manual", to which loose leaf pages were added on a subscription basis, from time to time. Somewhere around the mid-50's, this apparently became somewhat "problematic". so, what they did at that time was to go back, and pick out the pertinent pages for each model, and bind them by model number--however they did not re-paginate it.
Since that time, many "copies" of them have appeared--some well done, others lacking--most notably, the e-versions sold. The "best" are sold by Alwaysjukin Magazine, and Victory Glass--see "where to buy", in the announcements section above.
I wrote the "Seeburg Mechanism Guide as a supplement to the proper model Seeburg Manuals

So is it normal for the mech to hold the last played record?

If you really want to find that out--do some research, or read the Service Manual--
