Rowe AMi selection problems

by MightyWindmill » Sun Feb 19, 2012 1:47 pm

Hello,

I'm new here and have to confess I joined because I need some help (if there's anything I can offer in return I'll do my best, but I am a newbie to jukebox repairs).

I have a Rowe AMi Ri-5 that has developed a strange problem in selecting some of the records. The problem came on without warning, alebeit whilst I had the unit open in order to provide the mechanism with some tcl.

Basically, it now refuses to recognise/play the A-sides of the first 11 records in the unit; ie numbers 100 - 111. It quite happily plays the B-sides, as well as both sides of all the other selections. The numbers appear on the screen as you push the buttons to make the selection, but then nothing else happens, as if it instantly forgets it. (you can then make another selection and it will play that instead.)

Is this something anyone's experienced before and is it fixable without replacing the entire CPU?

Thanks,

Steph

..as an update on this problem, I have since discovered that it is possible to play these 'missing' tracks by selecting numbers 230 - 241. The display will acknowledge that you have chosen 230 for example, but then go on to play slot 100, and whilst showing 100 on the screen. My partner has suggested that this sounds like a plc error. Anyone any ideas?

Hi Steph/Ron.

The CCC on the R-84 though to R-88 including RI-3, RI-4, RI-5 and CTI-2 is the larger CCC 6-08870-1 (up to -4).
It sounds as if you need to have the boards checked over by a Rowe Ami specalist.
If you were in the UK, I would ask you to send me the following boards for testing/repair:-

CCC (Centeral Control Computer)
Mechanism Control
Pricing Board

I have just noticed that you are in the UK and from Sheffield (as they say small world)

Alan

Wow, small world indeed!

Are you able to come out to us to take a look (we're in Walkley)?

In addition, there's also an issue with the sound. The left speaker channel isn't working. We've replaced the speakers, tested them in both channels and tested the sound from the player, so think we've narrowed it down to one of the drive boards on the amp. (The fuses are all fine, but something's gone awry.) I was going to look for a replacement myself, but if thats something you could also help with...?

Thanks Alan,

Steph

Hello Steph,

Most people tend to bring in their parts in for repair, I suggest you contact me and arrange to bring in your mechanism, other boards and amplifier for testing/repair.

Alan
