Hi,

We have a Seeburg Channel 222. We have got this strangs problem. It regurarly misses selection. But this is completely random. So it will play now A1 and making that same selection 5 minutes later, it won't play it. We cannot find the problem. We placed another pricing unit and replaced the selection unit. Nothings seems to help. Anybody, any idea.

Thanks, Nicolet

Hi Nicolet,

Have you checked the connections to the contacts that go over the tormat.
There are very thin flexible wires that are atached to the pins that follow the tormat contacts, these break off and have to be resoldered, also the contacts have to be clean. There are contact for all the A' sides and B' sides and common grounding rails. The best way to clean these is to use a pencil rubber (eraser) and then clean off with a lint free cloth.

Please let us know how you get on.

Hi Alan,

Thanks for you answer.

We will give it a try. Although I find it strangs that it sometimes selects correctly and the next time the same selection failes.

Best regards,

Nicolet

Hi,

We tried the cleaning, but it didn't help.

When I make three selections, it plays 1 or 2 or sometimes nothing. Same selection again, gives completely different results.

We cannot find any logic.

Hi Nicolet,
It is very logical, once you understand how the phonograph should operate. Should you wish to repair it yourself, some electro/mechanical skills are necessary, and a reading, and understanding of the Seeburg Service manual is needed. If you do not wish to invest the time required, or you do not have the skills, I would advise that you call a "pro". FYI, service manuals are available at www.alwaysjukin.com . You might also wish to subscribe to the magazine, as there are always great "Tech Hints" in it. Ron Rich

Hi Ron

Thanks for your answer. The problem is not the skills. My husband is well capable repairing a jukebox. We already have the manuals and with this problem shooting pages, we found some problems in the pricing unit and fixed it.

It is just that this specific problem just doesn't make any sense. As we already tried al lot of things and the problems is not nicely reproducable.

What we did find now, is that when we make 3 selections, it always skips the first one en most of the time plays the second and third. But not always, sometimes it only plays the second or third or none.

We are just looking for more hints and tips to try.

Best regards,

Nicolet

What you might try, is looking at the (late) Tony Miller's Seeburg website. It has a GENERIC, not model specific, trouble shooting guide, which may give you some more ideas. http://home.pacbell.net/fmillera Ron Rich

On my Seeburg 220,this problem was caused by a bad capacitor inside the "pulse amp",a small box mounted to (the power supply?). Can't remember where it is exactly. But it's a small metal box that has to be opened up,and it was like a .05mfd capacitor I think. Been several years...

Good morning,i'm Maurizio From Florence, try to clean a Clutch that is behind a Mechanism, put a carriage on last selection, that out a black plastic to the end a mechanism so you can work better. Clean all very well and lubrificate it again.

Bump.

Nicolet - did you ever get yours fixed ? If so, what was the culprit ?

Mine is doing pretty much the same thing, so I'm curious about yours.

Thanks -

Mark

Hi Mark,
Welcome to the forum---
It's wise when "replying" to a post to check the date of the last post--this thread is rather old, and she did not bother to answer as to what was her solution.
There can be many reasons for this problem--something has probably exceeded it's normal life time. In fact, if one were looking at it, I think you would find many things that add up to an "out of spec." situation, I usually do..
I suggest you start with the late Tony Miller's web site, and do the "battery trick". This will help you to pin it down to the section of the phono that is failing. Or, you might want to purchase the Seeburg trouble shooting guide for that model.
When you have done the above, get back to us with more specific info, and someone here will no doubt be better able to help you.
