I lost the bookmark for the website that I had which allowed a user to enter a matrix number and search record info - - -
if someone has that and could post it I'd greatly appreciate the help . . . .
(I tried searching these posts and can't seem to find that particular web link)
"Thanks"

The only site I'm aware of that allows you to enter the matrix number to search information is the Encyclopedic Discography of Victor Recordings.

http://victor.library.ucsb.edu/index.php

Other than that, there is The Truesound Online Discography Project, which has a handful of labels listed, but you need to download the Excel files, which can then be searched using the Excel search function.

http://www.truesoundtransfers.de/disco.htm

All the others I have bookmarked need to be searched manually.

The Victor site was the one mentioned on this forum -- viewtopic.php?f=12&t=4424

Along with the two above sources, you could also try the online discographical project -- http://www.78discography.com/

The site's built in search engine isn't reliable, so normally, I've used that site in conjunction with Google to do a site search to find specific matrix numbers.

Just type the following in your Google search box --

site:www.78discography.com (you can bookmark this) -- followed by the brand name of the record and matrix number.

So for instance, if you are searching for Brunswick matrix 17513, you'd enter

site:www.78discography.com Brunswick 17513

and get:

http://www.google.com/search?as_q=site% ... 80&bih=585

The site search also works with the title, record number, artist, etc.

You can also do a site search using Google's advanced search page -- http://www.google.com/advanced_search. Just type the words or numbers, and fill in the site's address in the box next to "site or domain."

Hope this helps.
