Hi

This model has two 19 Watt fluorescent 26 inch lamps in the front door, both by the selection letter and number keys, and yes they are both powered on. I can not see any obstruction what so ever between the keys and the lights. Only 4 keys actually illuminate so you can see what key you are pressing in a dim lighting area.

Anyone have any ideas what would cause this or what to try to correct this?

It seems to me that it would be necesssary to see these keys in a dimly lit establishment to be able to make selctions, or is this normal on this model?

Thank you for your thoughts

Best
Darrell

Darrell, some of the keys will have been replaced on the JAL, JEL and M models due to breakage. The plastic was somewhat brittle and they break near the pivot point. Either the remaining originals or the replacements will be lighter-darker due to material used and, of course, yellowing and cigarette smoke etc. I had mismatched buttons on both the JAl and M phonos I owned.

Darrell,
Didja "clean" the plastic buttons, on the inside ?? Old age fades, or also, can darken them--just like people !!

Thanks for the ideas. Sorry, I was not clear enough. The push buttons all illuminate OK. The letters and numbers above the push buttons do not light so you can identify which letter or number button you want to select in a dark room.

Perhaps cleaning the underside of that area may help Since it is going to be 21 below zero and the unit is in my garage the cleaning will have to wait for awhile :D
