I recently got this record player at an auction it is a Magnavox 1SC249, I can't find any information on it. Everything works great on it, except it makes this horrible noise when the platter is spinning. I can't figure out whats wrong, please help

It sounds like you have an Idler wheel that has hardened. The rubber needs to be reconditioned/softened, if possible, or send it away to some experts who can have it "re-treaded". Sorry for lack of a better term. Your turn table has two wheels underneath...the one on the left is for the speed, which adjusts up or down the motor shaft with the speed selector switch, and makes direct contact with the inner rim of the platter, and the other wheel is for the record change cycle.

There is a C-clip at the base of the spindle (number 19 in the 2nd pic)that you can pop out with a small screwdriver to lift the platter and expose what's going on underneath. There is a pic below. If you are clueless about how these things work, please get expert help. I love my portables. I can't see hauling them over to someone's house these days to have a back yard party, though have done in the past.--BB
