Basically my Magnasonic with its mono dual 12" woofers with the tweeters in teh centers, open back, has a punchier crisper tighter bass, than my Imperial with its stereo 15" woofers and Quad Bi-amp. The amp in the imperial has been recapped, reresisterd, etc etc. The imperial just has a so-so kinda muddy low end, not real tight....and thats all im looking to do is tighetn up the bass. I dont need to rattle the windows or anything, but Ive heard a few people say the same things i do. The horns sound wonderful, and this unit only has the horns and the 15's on each cabinet, sealed, measuring about 3 cu ft. I also understand the bass response was limited for turntable reasons, as i wont be using the table much and if i do i can turn the bass down im not worries about it. And the small output transformers on the amp prolly wont reach much below 80hz....i should still be able to get a tighter sound as this uses the same speakers as the concert grand.
I have no problem porting the cabinets from teh bottom, stuffing them, or just changing the woofers completly. An adaptor can be made easily as not to really hurt the console. I see alot of 12" maggies on the bay, and heard a lot of talk in recharging AlNiCo magnets.....just want to know how people feel about the sound, and some suggestions to achieve what i want out of the console....
