Hi Rob,
OK--now I'm even more confused--
Is the coil never energized ? Is there some type of mechanical link that "pushes" out the meter pins ? I just do not remember that system ( and MANY other things) anymore ??

TIA, Ron Rich

Ron, it is energized during gripper operation via a switch on the gripper cam.
Here is a schematic:

Thanks, Rob,
Just as I thought, a "one shot"--it is in parallel with the scan add coil-- Makes sense to me now-

Well the solenoid of the pop meter is activated when the record is placed on the tt the grip arm is moving) . It has to be that way since it is placed right behind the pins showing the selection played at that time. For that to happen (before the pin of the pop is pushed) the pop meter must be aligned to the song that is selected. So it just can't be activated from the spray relay because by that time the pop meter is not yet aligned to the record selected. The solenoid is released by the switch that stops the grip arm, after placing a record on the tt (and not the whole time while the song is played...that was a mistake) So actually the pop meter coil is activated for about 5 seconds. I guess that is OK. Do you think that can cause it to burn? I believe that is the right way.
I hope I explained correctly and didn't confuse you. The bottom line is that the solenoid is activated and deactivated with the grip arm motor when placing a record.
Cheers

Hi Takis,
My GUESS is that 5 seconds may be a little long--IMHO, it should be powered only long enough for the plunger to travel the full distance--I would guess 1- 2 seconds. If you can reach the coil, you might try playing 5, or so records, tripping them off instantly, and seeing if that coil is getting warm--if not, I would think it will be OK--if warm, you probably should adjust the actuating switch for a lesser contact closure--if "hot" you ab-sol-lut-ly, MUST, shorten the closure time !
