Rock-ola 490 repair

by 1Buckeyes » Tue Jan 06, 2015 4:34 pm

I HAVE A ROCK-OLA 490 IT HAS TWO PROBLEMS.
FIRST THE TURNTABLE DOES NOT COME ON. IT TURNS FREELY BY HAND
SO I BELIEVE THE MOTOR IS NOT GETTING POWER, MAYBE I HAVE BAD FUSE. BUT THE ONLY FUSE I SEE LOOKS GOOD. IS THERE A FUSE FOR THE TURN TABLE MOTOR AND IF SO WHERE IS IT LOCATED?

THE JUKEBOX SELECTS A RECORD AND PUTS IT DOWN BUT THE TURN TABLE DOES NOT SPIN, IF I MANUALLY MOVE THE ARM OVER IT PUTS THE RECORD BACK.

THE SECOND PROBLEM IS IT SELECTS A RECORD THAT IS ALWAYS FOUR RECORDS HIGHER IN NUMBER THAN THE SELECTION I PUSHED. IS THERE AWAY TO FIX THIS? THANKS RON

Ron: the power supply is located to the right on the back wall of the 490. I don't have that in front of me right now, but here goes from memory: There are fuses accessible on the left side, but most are on the rectifier board accessed by removing (unplugged) the Phillips screw at the top center front that holds that front panel on the power supply. The rectifier board is top center inside. Check each fuse for continuity and make certain each is the proper size for each location. The turntable is also controlled by a Triac located on that board. You might also make sure the TT is plugged in and that you can turn the spindle by hand. If not, read within this forum how to repair. As for the indexing, making adjustments is covered in the service manual. If you don't have one, it would be helpful; for making adjustments, anyhow. It doesn't cover all that much "service". You can source documents, including the wiring diagram from the sources listed in the "sticks" at the top of this forum.

Hi Ron,

I believe I have a manual for your machine. I had a 490 a few years ago. I'll double check tonight. And I live in nearby Litchfield.
