LPC480 APU2 question

by Radioguy65 » Thu Dec 17, 2015 7:44 pm

OK, I'm going to cast a wide net here as someone who is new to these.

I just picked up my LPC480 project juke. It's a little farm fresh with a rough exterior and it's currently not running.

I am going through the systems one by one and most of them are familiar to me electronically, at least. I get capacitors, resistors and transistors, even tubes to an extent.

My question 'du jour' is about the APU2 unit. Mine does not have the motor in it and there are some obvious mechanical issues with it.

First, does it need the motor to do it's basic job?

Second, if the 'Detent Lever' has been removed from its post and the 'Add One Lever' is missing, is it possible that the machine was somehow modded to allow freeplay? Also I've noticed that the bracket connected to the actuator of the .25 add solenoid is broken, the one that the dime stop attaches to.

Should I try to source replacement parts or a whole new unit? I see the going price for a complete unit with motor is sitting at 100USD right now while one without the motor is 75USD. I wanted to get an opinion here before I started looking for parts at the various warehouses.

I'll have pictures posted later today.

Cheers,
Thom

Hi Thom,
The "motor section" is only used to subtract credits for an album selection--unit will function ( provided it is working correctly) for a "single subtract" just fine with out it-- See the LPC 480, I and O manual for setting instructions.
Yes--sounds as if someone has attempted to set it on "free play"--IMHO, NOT a good idea--Ron Rich

Ron,

Thanks for the response.

From some of the replies you written regarding free play, I agree that its a bad idea and I want to get the APU back up and running. Right now the 'Coin Rejector' is only passing through quarters, which suits me fine.

I will have a go at sourcing parts for the APU to get it up and running. Fingers crossed all I will need is the 'Add One Lever' and reseat the 'Detent Lever'. Also maybe a bit of JB Weld on the broken bracket attached to the .25 solenoid.

I've looked around for a parts catalogue for the LPC480 and haven't been able to track one down. Any suggestions? I have the I&O as well as the Troubleshooting and Service manuals.

Cheers,
Thom

Thom,
For the parts catalog, did you try any of the sellers listed above--I think they all sock it--
