Hi All;
I'm new to the forum but not new to electronics and 50's & 60's electronics but I have a simple question that a search doesn't give me a clear answer to.
I have just got a Rockola 1765 stepper (with the original caps) to work with a Rockola 500 wallbox and a Rhapsody II juke.

I know that I should replace the stepper's caps.
The parts list for the Rockola 1765 stepper indicates one electrolytic polarized cap (50uF 50V) but doesn't indicate that the others are polarized (.047uF 600v .47uF 600v .1uF 600v 200uF 50 v 100uF 50v).
Looking at the actual original caps they all have either a banded end or a plus sign.

I have the three 600volt caps as orange drops (non polarized).

So can I use the non polarized orange drops for the 600volt caps and polarized for the 50 volt caps?

Today, only "electrolytics" are polarized--"Paper" types have not had markings on them in 25 or so years--

Since all that caps have some marking (either a band on one end or a plus sign) then they all must be polarized.

Now my problem would be that I can't source 600v polarized caps.

I think you may have mis-understood--Usually "600 volt" caps are NOT polarized, unless "Lytic"--

Now that I think of it I've never seen a polarized 600v. I build my own guitar amps so I have a slew of orange drops at that voltage.
I note that all of the original 600 v caps in the stepper have a banded end but are not marked with a plus sign so the band does not signify a polarized cap.

I think I'm good to go on this issue!

The "band" on "paper caps" indicates "outside foil connection". It was "recommended" that the outside foil be connected to ground. Ron Rich
