Seeburg R plays same selection over and over

by Steve_B » Thu Aug 11, 2016 10:36 pm

Mechanism scans and reverses normally when using the service switch. Mech selects correct record when in play mode, plays record, returns record to magazine, then selects same record, plays record, etc (mech does not advance). I have the manual and have reviewed the troubleshooting section, but suggestions for fix didn't correct the problem.
Clutch has been adjusted with proper drive pin clearance and lubricated. Safety plunger is adjusted and not binding. Contact block was cleaned and is aligned. Cancel coils were tested and resistances are within specs.
Is there a switch adjustment that may be causing the problem?
Thanks for the help.

Hi Steve,
You need to select #A-1, and # A-2. Watch the contact pin on the SAU as the record is loaded--is it getting a pulse to kick the pin from the selected state to the non-selected state, on either, or, both sides ? ( this pulse occurs at the same time as the "pop" meter is pulsed) If so, is the "pin pusher" missing the pin ?

Hi Ron,
Contact block does have both cancel plungers and springs. The popularity meter seems to be advancing but I'll recheck the contact block alignment again. Any other suggestions?
Thanks.

Ron,
I selected A1-A2. The mech selected record but did not cancel the selection and played the same record again. I manually cancelled the selection lever after the start of the record and the record finished playing, was returned to magazine, and selected the next record as it should. So the issue, as you suggested, is no pulse to the cancel coil (pop meter did not advance either).

I verified the contact block alignment and plungers, the coils resistances, and the circuit wiring from pin #2 on the 11 prong plug, to the SC, C, IC, LC, RC contacts, and to the cancel coils, following the diagram in the manual. I did not find a break in the circuit.

What to look for next?
Thanks

Hi Steve,
OK--with a record in play position use a pair of pliers to "short the C-SC contacts for a second, and see if there is a pulse to the pop meter/cancel coil circuit--I'm willing to bet you will hear them fire. If so, check the C-SC switches for burns/pits -- clean ( see above post if un-sure how to do) and re-adjust as per the manual--Ron Rich

Ron,
Thanks for the tip. Pitted contacts on C-SC were the issue. All fixed now and working fine.
