Eitan,
I doubt we can help you make it fire missiles, but between the three of me, I think we can help--(Me, myself, and I will argue among ourselves, and hopefully can come up with something ) Ron Rich

Ron, I've got a 1970's era Miracord (German) turntable in the shop right now.
Has been "adjusted" to the point it doesn't work. (among other aged-related issues)
UGH!
So NOW I have to charge "extra" for the aggrevation and extra time involved.
Ya gotta love these putzers....

Gentlemen, I think the term you are looking for is Geppetto. I came up with that title in 1985 while visiting an operator on Tenth Avenue. His general appearance matched the character almost perfectly......he even had a little hammer nearby, though I never saw him use it. He would have used it on me had he known my opinion of him :-)

I was known for having an acid tongue. It is remarkable I still have all my teeth -especially since there were still some of the ...uh.."old timers" around.

Hi Rob,
Yep--I like and use that term often, and I try to remember to credit you for inventing it--however it takes up too much time to type it, sometimes, so I just use "person" in that case- - Ron Rich

well...
the capacitor i bought 100UF 50V didnt solve the problem

the original one was tested with cap meter to be ok

matt you are probably right, amateurs are the problem not capacitor

but this machine has not played for 30 years and I have to solve it ...

the DC current measured at the inlet to the cap is 24V DC, i think its ok ? right

any clue what else can be checked ?

this is the selection solenoid to working

Hi Eitan,
24 vdc should be OK--I just re-read this whole thread, and find myself in my normal state of confusion---
WHAT, at this moment is failing to function/when ?? Please use the exact term(s) as used in the Service Manual.

OK!

I hope this post will help others:

If your AMI continental just spins, or does not spin (the microswitch just stopped it) and you make a selection but nothing happens - aside the selector wheels (on the front) spins and stops (your hear cancel click) i.e. you hear a click but the little hammers on the back wont move so:

1. either your capacitor might be faulty (the little can shaped one near the right selector wheel - see pic in the first page) - its a 100UF 50V (yes the modern ones are 10 times smaller...) - or (more likely)

2. you better clean the contacts of the upper relay

see pics below

now what is the best way to clean them with out the need to buy special materials ?

(this helped me https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RShctrxBPyM)

Hello Eitan,

I always use a paper taper (you can buy paper cleaning strips) for cleaning the tips of contacts.

The contact on the left of your picture however has seen a lot of heat by the looks of it so the contact tip more than likely will be pitted, so may need replacement. This is where all those old saved contacts come into their own.

Alan

Hi Eitan,
The method I use for contact cleaning is posted above, in the "sticky' section of jukeboxes--

hi ron
I read the instructions there but need more info:

"... I use a "plastic safe- safety solvent". Once "clean" I examine the point looking for "pits/burns". If found, I use a "point file" AND then, a "burnishing tool", to "dress" the contact

"plastic safe- safety solvent" - this is a special product, probably can be found only i the US ?

"point file" - ?

"burnishing tool" ?

appreciated

Hi Eitan,
I would think these things should be available there--every "electronics store" stocks them here--
or you can get them all "on line"--
