Hi
would anyone have information on what way external speakers are hooked up to a Rockola lets say from the seventies rockola 453, 464 etc. Can regular speakers be connected up to the terminals behind the mechanism apart from the 70volt line terminals. There are 5 other terminal points for left and right channel..can they be used? any particular rules on the ohm rating and wattage of external speaker used.

Hi Clones,
That info should be printed in one of the accompanying manuals for each model. Generally speaking, it can be done.

Hi
In the manual for the rockola 460 and 464, it refers to external speakers and refers to a switch for speaker phono power and lo impedance power, i know the older rockola amps from the late sixties and possibly up to about 1971 have a switch for speaker phono power and wattage adjustment, but i dont see any switches like that on the later amps like in the rockola 464

Hi Clones,
All amps are different--however the "basic rule" is that you can not attempt to draw more wattage from any amp, then it's rated for--
If adding speakers, you must reduce the settings on the "cabinet" speakers by the number of watts drawn by the new, external speakers.

Hi Clones,
That's a carry-over from the days they had the switch--later models used a "tapped" terminal strip, in place of the switch--less expensive !

Hi Ron
What way does that work with the terminal at the back of the mechanism? there are taps both for left and right channel numbered 1 to 5, excluding the taps for the 70volt line, on most rockola i have seen the existing phono speakers wired to number 4.

I dono--no manual--
Try moving the internal speakers one way or another--louder number is higher wattage--
