Front center grill for Wurlitzer 2150

by COASTERS1969 » Mon Apr 11, 2016 11:40 pm

Hi out there! Can anyone recommend a good way to remove the center grill from a 1957 Wurlitzer 2150? Mine is pretty beat up and I want to replace it. I'm hoping it can be removed from the front of the jukebox and not from the inside!! Thanks! Bob C.

The answer is yes, it is removed from the outside. HOWEVER, you have to remove parts and pieces to actually slide it out. (Caveat, there may be some other fancy way to do this, so this is based on my experience). The grill simply slides into the two channels and then some small nails hold it in place at the top. Of course, you can't just slide it up since it would hit the bracing in front of the record strip holder, so that needs to be removed, Then I'm pretty sure you will hit the record changer mechanism. It may well be possible to slide the record changer mechanism back off the springs to get enough clearance without removing it altogether. I'm guessing nothing else (except of course the shelf boards and title strip holders which aren't any big deal) needs to be removed. My one question would be the glass lid; although it looks like you may be able to do it without removing it. When I restored mine, I had to redo the cabinet so everything was taken apart and the grill removal was a piece of cake

Thanks, Brooks! I was hoping I could remove it from the front and will give it a shot!

Hi Bob,
Since I don't do any "cosmetic" work--I find it too frustrating--I do have a couple of ideas to solve this problem. One is a can of silver paint, and the other, a one stick, fix-all, for this problem--Die--no-mite!-- The 2nd one will absolutely insure no more worries about an ugly screen !
Don't bother to thank me--my pleasure to help ! Ron Rich

Thanks, y'all. I understand there may be a supplier for aftermarket replicated grills for some jukes. Is there a source someone could recommend for my Wurlitzer 2150? I have a grill "cloth" I'm using for now, but would like to eventually have an original aluminum one. Thanks! Bob C.

Hi Bob,
Your post triggered a thought, way, way back, in my convoluted memory. There is a guy called Kim "Gretsky" ( not sure of the spelling) that runs"custom records" --a record cutting service--he USED to also make some WurliTzer grill screens and like products--don't know if he still can/does, or has some left in stock ? Might check it out-- Ron Rich
