General Electric Model AR230 AOA?

by lizardking21 » Mon Apr 09, 2012 11:56 pm

Sorry for the grainy photos, the camera on an ipad isn't so great.

Just wondering if anyone on this board can tell me anything about this record player/ radio combo.
my dad has had this thing for as long as I can remember and recently gave it to me. he says its very rare and i guess that would explain why i cant find it or any information about it anywhere. just wondering if there's anything needing special attention, any problems with it that i should watch out for. It works great now but i want to keep it that way.

Thanks in advance.

How far back can you remember this GE? It's true very little information is out there on these GE consoles.

Number 1 - it's not "rare", sorry.
It's a late 60's tabletop phono/radio, relatively common and not really valuable.

thanks but i wasnt really concerned with value as i will never get rid of it. more concerned with any issues it may have had, things i should be concerned with, things i should be worried about replacing, that sort of thing.

thanks

Maintenence of these vintage pieces is required of course, and I'm sure nothing's been done to it since it was purchased.
Things deteriorate...
The changer will require overhauling, and a teltale hum might suggest the amplifier is in need of restoration.
If left in this state and used without these upgrades, failure and added expense is the result.
40+ years, and I'm sure it's due by now.

"Hum" usually leads to more "hum", soon enough to become HUMMMMMMMMMM, which shortly after, usually turns to "smoke". Once "smoke" has arrived, fire sometimes follows--but the one good thing is --no more "hum". I would strongly urge ALL to un-plug >>> ANYTHING<<< that's starting to hum--until it can be properly serviced. Ron Rich
