Magnavox Astrosonic Series

by SweetHannahRose » Thu Jan 12, 2012 5:39 pm

Hey there,
I've been a here and there vinyl collector throughout the years. I had a modern cd player/record player/cassette player to listen to them on, but it just didn't feel authentic. Last night my Aunt gave me an old Magnavox Astrosonic Series Console. Complete with all the paperwork and warranty tags (too bad I still can't find a year on it :x )
Anyways, I brought it home and put in a Frank Sinatra record and it wasn't playing well... Trying to pinpoint the issue my finger hit the needle and pushed it into the cartridge. Now I've been searching how to remove or "turn over" the tone arm to see what's going on (CAN'T FIGURE IT OUT.) Also, there's no way I can figure out what kind of needle/stylus cartridge it needs or where I can find one.
It's been a very frustrating morning trying to figure all this out! Help would be extremely appreciated! I want to starting listening asap! Thank you!

Seach this site for "Astrosonic" and "cartridge" - there's plenty of info if you do a little digging on here.
The Internet is a marvelous thing, however it's not a good substitute for actually being there.

Sweethannarose,

Which tonearm is your console supplied with? The narrow straight silver arm or the older black curved, arm.
