Magnavox micromatic info

This is my first post and looking forward to many more. Looking for info on a Magnavox console. This is the info I pulled off it.

I've seen and heard this could be a magnasonic x10 or a Astro sonic model how do you tell. The cabinet is perfect and it plays well . The changer works perfect and sounds great. I would be interested in getting service and user manuals and maybe a new cartridge. I did just order new needles. Any info on the record changer or cabinet would be great.

I restored one of those a while back for a customer.
Tube-powered, budget line console - certainly not a stellar performer.
However, with certain "tweaks" it can sound respectable.

This one is solid state and runs pretty good as it sits. What cartridge replacement would you recommend and what " tweaks" would be beneficial for this model. I'm taking it to my vintage radio repair guy soon for just that....also is this a magnasonic or a Astro sonic and what is the difference. Thanks again...

I have a model very similar to this. It's a tube model from 1964 and also has AM/FM. If it were an Astro-Sonic, it would say so on the tuner face plate. They are always labeled. I'm not impressed with the sound, but keep it around for a piece of history. --BB

Was going to make a new thread but figured that I might as well just post here. I also recently picked up a Magnavox Micromatic turntable (Model # 1P3612) console as part of a trade. After reading all the horror stories about spontaneously combustion on older consoles I have been very cautious about playing this thing without being right in front of it. Currently it is in my shop where I do work on arcades and recently started working on jukeboxes. The unit plays and sounds well (purchased and installed a new needle) but does have a few minor issues.





The record changer works with 45's sometimes, but then the tonearm will catch on the lowest record and drop onto the mat. Is this likely a fault with the 45 record insert or the arm on the changer?

Also, the mat has a chunk missing out of it (outside of the 45 footprint). I would like to replace this with a new mat. Any suggestions? Does it matter what type of mat I get?

Finally, I visually inspected the power supply and amp and both look to be in good shape. With that said, what, if any, repair work should I do on these components prior to bring this console into my home. I want to be safe and take any and all necessary precautions prior to moving this thing.

I highly doubt that Astrosonic console ould catch on fire or smoke like a tube console might.
And a "visual inspection" is certainly not any way to judge the actual condition of any electronics.
However some precautionary upgrading of the chassis would be in order, before use, to prevent expensive output transistor failure.

The record changer chassis would also need overhauling and obvious adjustment to insure reliable and proper operation.

Service manuals were printed for that stuff.
And the special Magnavox Tool was made for technicians to aid them in the servicing.

A late 1968 model. I have basically the same thing, but different cabinet. About 36-38 inches wide, single sliding lid, 12" woofers and 4x10 horns. Great sound for such a small package. --BB

Matt, what is this "Magnavox Tool" of which you speak? I have downloaded the manual, but to be honest, it is not very thorough (at least not the copy that I have).
