Two LS2 problems

by Maston » Mon Apr 06, 2015 5:46 pm

I got the Seeburg LS2 GEM to play records. Thanks for all the information I've received so far. I had the SCC7 serviced and all the capacitors replaced. It hasn't auto-rejected a record since. However I am still having some problems. I’m going to list the two problems and you guys tell me which I need to fix first as these two problems may be related.

Problem A: This LS2 is supposed to operate without coins, and to my memory never needed a credit entered using the service switch. The “Single Selection” and “Thank You” lights are always on. Right now it is not working that way every time. I’m having to make a selection and then use the service switch to get it to begin to scan, then put the switch into the play position. After that, I can add as many selections as I’d like as long as it does not go back into the “rest position”.

Problem B: After the power has been on for around 10 to 20 minutes, the mechanism does not enter scan immediately. It doesn't matter if an input selection is made or if the service switch is activated to start the scan. It will eventually start to scan if I leave it powered on but it could take up to 5 minutes or more.

Where do I start “going down the line” to find the problem?

Hi Matson,
Problem A--this jukebox, like all others is designed to make money--NOT (in most cases) to "free play". In this case, "somebody" had to "modify it", somehow, for free play--NOT recommended for any Seeburg using a "latch bar solenoid"!
If the select lamp stays lit, the UDPU-6 is modified--I do not think this relates to problem B.
If the "thank-you lamp is lit, it should not be--in fact, 99% of the LS-1/2's do not even have a socket for that lamp--are you sure it is lighting ??--I think you will find it is illuminated by the fluorescent tube. Only machines with a DRIT installed have the thank-you lamp socket installed, all others should have a plastic plug in that hole.
As for the delay time in motor starting ("B"), this is usually caused by the "motor run" contacts on the scan control assembly in the SCC. Did the "servicer" replace the .01 cap soldered to the contacts ?-did he remove any pitts/burnish/ check adjustment of these contacts ? If those are "good", did he check the NC contacts on the Autospeed ?. If that's all good, I would suspect the reversing switch contacts on the mech are the problem. (See the service Manual for motor run schematics) Ron Rich

I haven't pulled the SCC out because for some reason unknown to me since I wrote my last post, the Jukebox has been operating normally. And when I say "normally", I mean for this jukebox: not needing coins or credits selected on the service switch.

As far as the "select", "single", "albumn", and "thank you" lights: I only have two bulbs. One is in the space behind "Select" and the other is in the space behind "Thank you". The other two have nothing behind them, not even a bulb socket. The two bulbs are always on except when a selection is made while the UDPU is doing it's thing, the bulbs turn off for a second and then back on.
