Ambassador model 647 that uses a Glaser Steers record change

Hello readers here! I have a glaser steers record changer from 1960 that is found with this Ambassador 647 record player with decent amp. The glaser steers record changer GS-77 or GE, or GED has a "Speed minder" which is suppose to identify the different size records. Only problem is the tone arm rest does not have the built in lever to trip and to determine the 78 record like the earlier version of the GS-77. Now can this "Speed Minder" work otherwise. The one I have is just a regular tone arm post that locks the tone arm down. If this player is left on "Speed Minder", the speed is 78RPM and no matter where the tone arm lands. Have any you readers come across this in some record players other than a Ambassador, or a Hoffman or a Gereneral eclectric? Thanks for your time.

Maybe someone replaced a broken rest post with one for a GS400 and took the linkage out, not knowing what it did.
Or maybe the changer is modified for that particular player.
It might be a fault in another part of the speedminder that is making it always select 78,

I recently picked up a Glaser-steers GS-77T, it doesnt have the speedminder at all, or the rest post feeler that activates 78rpm. It does have the turntable pause feature though, I think its a later model from 1962 or so, at least thats the date on the Sams folder that matches it. Does yours have a position labeled "speedminder" on the speed switch? do you get the right speeds when selected manually? maybe something in the speedminder mechanism is gummed up with old grease. .Mine wont even cycle because some parts are totally stuck..but thats a project for this winter when I have more time..
you might want to try finding the Heathkit manual for it, it has better diagrams than the Sams about how everything goes together..handy to have if you have to take things apart to clean them.
